My dr isn’t listening to me :(

Really pleased to hear this? Have you had an appointment at the clinic or did a nurse come out to your GP clinic to get you started?

Learning to use insulin is a work in progress for us all but the early weeks and months are a very steep learning curve. You will make mistakes occasionally and sometimes it will go wrong even when you haven't made a mistake so you have to learn to roll with the punches and accept there is an element of unpredictability and getting it "near enough" most of the time, is good enough. Don't strive for perfection as it isn't possible and will drive you mad.

Have they prescribed you Freestyle Libre sensors to help you manage your levels?

Which insulins are they starting you off on?

Feel free to ask whatever questions you have here on the forum. I found it invaluable because there is only so much you can take in during that first appointment and I am sure there was quite a lot that went in one ear and out the other at mine, but the good people here kept me right when it came down to the practicalities.

Thankyou! It was a lot of information but the nurse was so helpful!
I saw the diabetic specialist nurse in the endocrinology department at the hospital (I have an appointment with a consultant at the end of the year).
She set me up on the libre and prescribed Tresiba (8 units) Long Acting Insulin and NovoRapid (3units per meal) Fast acting insulin. She said that she will start me on these measurements for the first week or so and when they know where my levels are sitting will adjust accordingly.

Excellent! So pleased you have Libre and a supportive nurse and thank heavens for that second opinion GP who listened!
How are you feeling about injecting?

So glad you've finally got an accurate diagnosis, @Jas_99

The first doses they put you on are always a "best guess" so they are likely to need adjusting as time goes on and you learn what works for you.

The DSN will be the most helpful and knowledgeable person you see as a type 1, so if you haven't already got her phone number and/or email address, do try to get at least one or the other next time you see her! I think I emailed mine about once a week for the first few months with some question or other, and she asked me to email her my bgl readings regularly too.

Have they made sure you have hypo treatments and info about how to recognise and treat hypos? I hope so, because everyone on insulin gets hypos from time to time.
