Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
My daughter has had diabetes for four months now and my partner and me have had our lives changed. Our daughter has handled everything a lot better than us. We still cry when she asks us how long does she have to have diabetes for.

There are lots of lovely parents on here who know exactly where you are coming from, so you have come to a great place 🙂. How old is your daughter and how did she come to be diagnosed?

Our daughter is 6 she was drinking lots of fluids when we took her to ae she was 54 blood levels. They were amazed she was so active. Heart breaks for her.

Well done for taking her to A&E. How is she managing at school, are they being supportive?

Have you been told to get the Ragnar Hanas book? - written for parents and older children,/young adults so not in 'textbook-ese' and useful whatever age you are.
 
Yes, the book Trophywench mentions is a great book, a veritable bible. Not cheap, but worth every penny. Think it is called Type 1 diabetes in children and young people.

Hi Chloesdad, welcome to the forum 🙂 Very sorry to hear about your little one's diagnosis, but it is good to hear that she is coping well with it, and that her school are being supportive 🙂 As suggested, I would highly recommend getting a copy of Type 1 Diabetes in Children Adolescents and Young People by Ragnar Hanas - a very positive and comprehensive reference on all aspects of living and growing up with Type 1.

I'd also recommend having a read of Adrienne's essential guide for parents of newly-diagnosed children which may help you understand that you are not alone in how you are feeling, but there is lots of hope 🙂 Does your daughter have a Rufus Bear? If not, you can get one from JDRF using the following link:

I would also recommend looking at the Children with Diabetes website which has hundreds of parents of Type 1 children and is an excellent source of information and support 🙂

Please let us know if you have ANY questions or concerns and we will be happy to help. We have members here who have had Type 1 for over 50 years and it's unlikely that there are any situations that at least one of us has encountered before! 🙂
