Hi Benji, welcome to the forum 🙂 Have you been diagnosed long? I have problems with cold feet, although I had problems before I was diagnosed also, so in my case I think I'm just one of those people! However, having cold feet can be diabetes-related, particularly if your blood sugar control is poor. I remember when I was in hospital at diagnosis and with very poor blood sugar levels my feet were often like blocks of ice. In fact, even though I was diagnosed in the summer, and in a year with plenty of hot sunshine, I developed chilblains on my toes for the first time since I was a young child 😱 Eventually, I managed to ge my levels under control and things improved, and though I still suffer from cold feet it is nowhere near as bad as it was.

Diabetes can affect the small blood vessels, and this can lead to poor circulation - sometimes leading to numbness, or sometimes pain as the nerves become highly sensitive - do you have any pain or numbness? Have you had your feet and pulses checked by a podiatrist?

Do your feet warm up eventually? What insulin regime are you on?

Have you had your thyroid checked Benji? Underactive thyroid is more common in people with type 1 (it also has an auto immune cause), and definitely leads to cold feet and feeling cold generally. You should have a thyroid test annually as part of your annual review.

Welcome to the new look forum Benji.

Erm, HOBIE, what is the link between blood circulation and diet tonic water with a hint of lemon? (other than simple hydration?).

I prefer pan-galactic gargle blasters, personally! 😉

Andy 🙂

I had the opposite problem pre-diagnosis Benji, burning feet! But both can be caused by high glucose levels leading to narrowing of arteries and capillaries leading to impaired blood supply to the tissues of the feet. I've found getting my levels down has helped enormously.

You might explore Raynaud's disease too because that phenomenon features narrowing of tiny blood vessels as a reaction to nerve sensitivity to cold exposure, which causes cold feet symptoms.
Does it affect your hands too?

Welcome and good luck.

Personally if my blood sugars were under control then I would be asking for a thyroid and anaemia check if that hasn't already been done.
