Next week marks 12 months from my type 2 diagnosis. Had my annual review today, and my Hba1c is now 41.
Really pleased with this result, which I believe has definitely been achieved by following the great advice on this forum, and the Xpert diabetes course.

The only thing which has puzzled me is that my DSN wants me to continue taking my metformin. This surprised me as there is so much talk about type 2 costing the NHS so much money! She was of the opinion that my current regime is working well so why change it.
I'm very happy to continue taking it as I'm lucky not to have any side effects from it, but wondered what others on here have experienced ???

Hi. That’s a fantastic result , we’ll done.

Metformin has health benefits other than helping with diabetes, it’s also a very cheap medication. If your happy to continue with it then their is no reason why you shouldn’t continue , if you want to try reducing or cutting it out that’s fine too, basically it’s your choice.
It’s perfectly perfectly safe to stop it straight away.

Well done on such a good HBA1c result! I have my 6 month review next week, I’m worried they might want to reduce or remove my metformin because with my low carb diet things seem to be going well and I don’t want to change that.....😉

Excellent result Adele! 🙂 As @Ljc says, metformin is a very cheap medication so you will not be breaking the NHS budget by continuing to take it, and if it's not causing you problems and side-effects then it's probably worth sticking with 🙂 I've read a number of articles over the years where metformin has claimed to have benefits in numerous and diverse areas of health, so who knows what it may be helping to protect you from? 🙂

Keep up the great work! 🙂

I wanted to stay on Metformin, I did manage a couple of years, but eventually my nurse refused to prescribe it anymore.

Thanks everyone.
I'm going to carry on with the metformin, lowish carb diet and exercise plan. It seems to be working well for me and I'm feeling healthier than I have for years!
