Type 1
My Mum now has Type 2 diabetes. She has been feeling unwell for a few days, thirsty, passing urine etc (as you all know!) and today her BG was 13.6. Not sure if she will be diet or tablet controlled as yet but I know her weight will be an issue, not sure how she will cope with that being brought up. Just hoping she will take care of herself as I have been trying to tactfully say things for a while but she hasn't taken my advice. It is hard as I don't want to upset her but it's been over 3 years now since my Dad passed away and she really needs to start looking after herself better, it is a big worry.

Very sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis newbs :( Perhaps you could print off Maggie Davey's letter and give it to her, or even go through it with her? If she's a reader, then there's the unput-downable classic Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker 😉

I suppose the thing to do is to try not to overwhelm her with information, but try to get her off on the right footing. Perhaps you could cook her a meal or two and explain why the various things are good for her?

Thank you so much for the links Northerner, much appreciated. She does like to read so I think both will be very helpful. 🙂

Hope your Mum comes to terms with the diagnosis quickly. You may become her expert adviser.
