Hope someone can give me some advice.

Many thanks

I would not have thought there was any problem as most over the counter multivitamins are pretty well designed to be safe for anybody and are only at small concentrations of the components. But the information on the product leaflet in your medication should tell you what not to take.

Talking to a medic chum of mine, he is not at all a fan of multi-vitamins, on the basis they have a very little of lots of stuff and unlikely to have enough to improve any decent deficiencies. His advice is to measure levels, then supplement where required, with dosages based on requirements.

I know it isn't always easy to have your vitamins tested, and if you feel you want to, I reckon it'd be unlikely to do you any ahrm.

As for the gummies? I'd be wondering if they had sugar in them, but that should be listed on the ingredients list. Of course, if they have sugar it's depend how much and how many you need to take.

So, all in all the answer is "maybe or maybe not". Not helpful I know. Sorry.

My pharmacist niece is no fan of multivitamins either on the grounds that if you are not deficient in any vitamin, they will go straight through and if you are deficient in anything then the dose is not enough to do anything about it.

If you have signs or symptoms of a vitamin deficiency, then your GP will get tests done and if necessary will prescribe a regime that will have a decent chance of correcting things.

I suppose if you look at it from the point of view that they may not do much good but unlikely to do any harm and as long as they don't cost too much then I might as well take them. It was mainly because when I went low carb I had low folate which I suspected was because of not having foods supplemented with folic acid and probably a few other things as well.

I don’t take a broad spectrum, but I have been in the habit of supplementing high strength Vit C and Vit D (especially over the winter) for a year or two.

I have no idea if they are helping all that much, but I gather most of us at this latitude struggle to create enough Vit D over the winter months.

Me too: I take a Sainsbury's 'Over 50' vitamin tablet each day. I keep waiting for the checkout person to say, "Surely you're too young for those?" :(.

Rather than multi vits itake omega 3 and iron tabs

I started getting problems with sores around my fingernails and toenails (I have always known them as wicklows) in the autumn and I suspected vitamin C may be the issue so I started a multivitamin alongside the vitamin D supplement I take during the winter because I had a Vit D deficiency a couple of years ago at my diabetes review and needed a high strength prescription to bring it up. The problem with the sores on fingers and toes resolved after a couple of weeks but whether it was vitamin C or one of the others or totally unrelated, I do not know, but I doubt I will continue to take them all year round but perhaps just to tide me over the winter months. I just buy cheap ones from Lidl, so it doesn't cost me much.

My hubby and I did a lot of research when he was diagnosed with Lung cancer nearly 4 years ago and was given 2 years to live, he began taking a range of vitamins along with a 2 year course of imunotheropy his oncologist was told what he was taking, to make sure it didn’t interact with the treatment and to this day he had continued taking them

I know a lot of people don’t agree but we feel it has contributed to his continued stable condition

I just wanted to wish you both luck with your husband's challenges. It's great to hear a positive story relating to lung cancer. It's a nasty condition (we lost my Mum to it some years ago).

thank you so sorry to hear about your mum.

Thank you. It's several years ago now, so emotions are less heightened, but any loss is important and marks our lives in some way.

Celebrate your husbands continuing good health. Long may it continue.

Have you got one of those cards to prove you are old enough to buy alcohol?
