Every once in a while I like to treat myself, so as part of my lunch today I had a chocolate and vanilla fairy cake.

Proves my tatses and needs have changed, it was so sweet I couldn't eat all of it and now feel quite queesy. I'm on plain wter for the rest of the day!

I found that at my last birthday - the cake I bought myself wasn't anywhere near as enjoyable as I'd expected because my tastes have changed so much! I'm quite glad really - today in the shop I saw a Turkish Delight, and I used to love them. Then I noticed that it was 70p - that's 14/- 😱 for one Turkish Delight! Could have bought the factory for that when I was a kid! 🙄

I was a bit too low so I went mad and had a banana. First time since Dx I've done that and I enjoyed every bite of it. I know what you mean though, I've had full fat coke a few times lately for the hypos and hated it.

Unfortunately I still like sweet things far too much - I hope my tastes change sometime too, it would be very helpful. I supose my tastes have changed but not really away from sweet things, for example I used to love chocolate cakes and chocolates but now I prefer fruity cakes - doesn't help with the blood sugars though, there is still lots of sugar in all cakes!!

There is lots of sugar in cake, but some cake after a meal from time to time is a nice treat and you don't need to feel too deprived.

I've been a diet coke drinker for years - if I have regular coke it just tastes like fizzy watered down treacle

I had half a mars bar the other day and found it much too sweet, wasn't sure if they were sweeter than ever or my taste buds had changed, seeing this thread I now know the answer.🙂

B4Dx I was never much for the fizzy drinks but occasionally used to enjoy a Pepsi or a Coke, full fat of course. I hated the diet ones because of the aftertaste you often get of the sweeteners. These days, I won't touch full fat except for hypos and would rather have fruit juice anyway, but now I do actually like the taste of some diet drinks - Irn Bru for instance.

I think our tatses change over time anyway. These days I look at things and think there is so much suagr in that. I couldn't stand diet drinks before and a full fat coke is too too sweet.
