I have been using Lantus for about 8 years, never had any problems and my blood was pretty constant. I take 30units around dinner time and throughout the day / night my blood is around 4.5 / 6. I've had a couple of lows during the evening but nothing major.

I have now moved on to Tresiba. I started 6 days ago and have tried having a dosage between 26 / 32. So far, my blood is a lot higher, especially in the morning going up to about 10 or 11. The highest I used to go up with while taking Lantus was 8. I seem to be taking more Humalog to get my levels down now. Going from about 1 or 2 units a day with Lantus to about 12+ with Tresiba.

I don't feel like its doing anything for me, it doesn't seem "stable" as it claims.

Any one else having the same issue?

I can't comment on any other basal as I was put straight onto Tresiba at diagnosis but I have never had any problems with it, I'm usually somewhere between 5 and 7 on waking, and one night I had to test every hour during the night I remained very stable, I'm currently on 8 units at 10pm, have you spoken to your team about it? x

She said try it out for another week, but its not helping me while im doing keto!

I always used to have my Lantus and my humalog at the same time when i have my evening meal. I wonder if i need to adjust the time i have the Tresiba?

Hmmm I'm not sure as Tresiba is meant to be much more flexible than other basals too x

Was there a reason why they changed it? It seems odd they done this if you were doing OK on the Lantus. The reason I ask is that my basal has just changed, but it was because I was getting hypos in the early hours and then rebounding highs, therefore I'm now on split doses of Levermir. Can you contact DSN at your hospital, assuming you're under their care.

Because im doing Keto, they suggested that i could try this to get even more stable levels. There wasnt a real need but they thought it could help me out even more. I dont go to a hosiptal to see my specialist however i think its part of the NHS or something? The specialist was nice enough to speak to my before she went on holiday, however giving this ago for another week with unstable bloods without a reason for it is giving me some doubt.

Oh I see, hopefully someone more knowledgeable about these insulin's and the interaction with doing a Keto diet will come along.

Im going to give it a few more days, because Lantus and Keto (for me) was really good. Since doing Keto my HbA1c is 42. I dont want to ruin it just to try out a new insulin.

Absolutely, makes no sense at all. Good luck!
