Hello, I hope everyone is well 🙂

Just a quick question really...I have got this really Big Mouth Ulcer, had it a few days now! I have not had a Mouth ulcer ever before, it does'nt hurt too much and I have been putting Bonjela on it for the past 2 days...No improvment!!...I just wondered if anyone her had problems with Mouth ulcers?...I would welcome any suggestions to get rid of the horrible thing!!

Also, with Diabetes, are Mouth Ulcers a worry?...How long should I give it before I consult my GP?

Thank you In advance!!...Ellowyne x

Hi Ellowyne, if you haven't had a problem with them before and this one is clearly bothering you I would make an appointment now, if only to put your mind at ease. It might be worth calling NHS Direct to see what they say. 🙂

Thank you Northerner! 🙂

I will give it another day, and if no improvement I will do just that! Thank you!! 🙂

I swear by Anbesol liquid, it clears up ulcers quite quickly compared to the gels. You can get it from most chemists.

Hi Ellowyn

It was ulcers on my tongue that got me diagnosed with diabetes. I still get a small ulcer on my tongue every couple of months, but I put some Bonjela on it before going to bed and it is gone within 24 hours. Hope you can get yours cleared up soon, I know the can be quite painful.

Hey, yep I get them pretty often - especially when I am feeling run down. They run in my family, so I've never connected them to having diabetes.

Anbesol is good for pain relief!

I get them often too - I have two at the moment, annoying things! I use Oraldene (hexetidine I think) mouthwash - you can get it from pharmacies and even from Tesco. It totally numbs everything aswell as treating it quickly, the only downside is that everything tastes bad for quite a few hours after (I use it before bed so I don't have to put up with the taste!!)

I find Boots own make ulcer treatment works quite well, but agree if no improvement soo, get medical help. Not sure who is best to help, doctor or dentist. I know it is a bit belts and braces to suggest both, but worth it to stop pain.

First thing I'd do would be to change my toothbrush. I don't get mouth ulcers that often, but if I've had one hanging around for a few days it's often a sign that my toothbrush is a bit past it and getting a shiny new one (along with Anbesol etc) usually does the trick.
