Has anyone had else had severe lower stomach cramps and sickness lasting hours being on Mounjaro. I take 5mg weekly now since last July, have lost 51/2 stone. But over the last 5 weeks have had 3 bouts of severe lower stomach cramps and severe sickness. Went to see GP yesterday as thought it might be food poisoning, he thinks it is the mounjaro so is taking me down to 2.5mg. Stomach often gurgles and is uncomfortable.

No stomach issues. I just felt generally unwell while I was taking it. I felt like I had aged 20 years practically overnight with joint pain and general fatigue. I came off it and feel fine again.

Was on 5mg for ages, and have recently gone to 7.5mg.
No stomach pains, apart from the occasional lurches between constipation and diarrhoea.
Medicines can affect people very differently...

Sorry to hear you’ve been having stomach troubles @Sav

The leaflet in the box may well give you an idea of possible side effects

This DUK page suggests:
Side effects from taking Mounjaro can include:
  • feeling sick
  • indigestion
  • constipation
  • diarrhoea

No stomach issues either for for me really, but when I went up to 12.5 from 10, I started burping a fair bit so have been sold an over the counter medication to take in the mornings on an empty stomach
the pharmacist sugested what she sold me might be available on prescription as I’m on Mounjaro and stomach issues are a common side effect

Well done on loosing 5&1/2 stone @Sav :star:

My BIL was fine on Ozempic for a while then ended up in hospital with a severe pain which they suspected was a blocked bowel. Nothing was found and they decided it was just a side effect of the meds so he came off them so side effects can happen even when you’ve been on them for a while.

If you continue to have symptoms on the lower dose then do go back to the doctor as it might be an ulcer or something unrelated to the meds.

Went to Drs had blood tests done, shows I have high liver and pancreas levels, going to have a liver, pancreas scan next week. Have to stop Mounjaro completely..

Good that you went and they are checking you out urgently.

I did worry that it might be the start of pancreatitis although that would generally be upper stomach and back pain. Hope all goes well with the scan and they are able to pinpoint and treat the problem relatively quickly and easily and that stopping the Mounjaro will help things to settle down.

Thank you, it is a worry but it does seem something that is happening.

The important thing is that you are being checked out promptly and the possible cause of the problem (Mounjaro) has been stopped. Do let us know the outcome of the scan and what your proposed new treatment is.

I will let you know what I find out.
