Hi all, thanks for accepting me.
I have a appointment with my nurse on the 19th November to start using mounjaro.
I've read lots of different things and I feel a bit nervous.
I'm currently taking 2 metformin and 1 empagliflozin but my nurse has suggested dropping the metformin when I start on the mounjaro.
Any tips or advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum. There are a few people who do take that medication in combination with other oral medications and each work in different ways.
The ones you are taking as well as making dietary changes are the first ones often prescribed, metformin helps the body use the insulin it produces more efficiently and reduces the release of glucose by the liver and the empagliflozin encourages the kidneys to excrete excess glucose via urine but both work better with making some reduction in carbohydrate intake. Is that something you have been doing.
This link may give you some new ideas, it is based on the suggested no more than 130g carbs not just sugar per day. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/

I have been taking both but will be changing to the mounjaro. Thank you for the link .

Hope you get on really well with the adjusted meds @Debla

Diabetes UK have an overview page about Mounjaro which may answer some of your questions?

It seems to be one of the meds which not only helps manage glucose levels, but which can also have a positive impact on weight loss.

I'm starting mounjaro this week alongside metformin. I'm a little worried about the side effects but definitely feel it's worth a try.

Hi @Debla I’ve myself had absolutely no side effects to taking Mounjaro
In my case prior to taking Mounjaro, I was taking another Medication that although that also didn’t give me any unpleasant side effect on me (I was taking Trulicity) for me that just didn’t help me the way Mounjaro has since I started taking it (at the end of May)

I’m sure your DSN / GP will explain how Mounjaro works and what to expect.
do you have much weight that you are looking to loose and what was your last Hba1c?

I also upped my activity around the same time as I started taking Mounjaro but in my case
have bought down my HbA1c from 76 down to 48 and have lost so far 15Kg

Hi, my last reading was at 54. I struggled with pre diabetes for around 3 years. Ideally like to loose around 20kg.

I've struggled more over the last 10 months as I've cur back totally on my wine drinking and packed up smoking, but unfortunately I've replaced these with snacking

I’m now eating much smaller portion since I started on MJ, I hope it has the same desired effect on you that it has to me
There are others that have posted on here that they have also found MJ beneficial
some days I do snack myself but these will now be healthy snacks

I just started mounjaro on Friday so early days, was on gliclazide and metformin but dropped the gliclazide on Friday. Kept on metformin.

No real side effects so far, strange how it makes me feel, I had been dieting quite strictly and was always very hungry before meals, seems to have got rid of the feeling of hunger. Meal sizes Iv reduced because you do feel fuller sooner.

Hi, I'm staring my mj tomorrow. I will still be on 3 metformin and 1 empagliflozin.
I'm glad you haven't had any side effects. I'm hoping it will really help to curb my appetite.
I'll post how I'm getting on over the next few days.
I'm really pleased I joined this forum as it seems really positive. I did join a Facebook page but quickly took myself off it...!!

@Debla hope you get on well on your MJ journey

I’ve just picked up my 7.5mg pen (having stayed on the 5mg dose for far longer than people would usually do) at that time I probably hadn’t been eating so much, due to stress & anxiety, plus as I’m also taking insulin need to reduce that as the MJ dose is increased in my case

Good luck with 7.5mg. Hope you find it OK.

I am just going to start on 7.5 luckily I have had no problems up to now on the lower doses but time will tell. I also take insulin she told me to keep my eye on my levels and reduce insulin if I'm going too low. I've not lost much weight yet but I'm hoping. My levels have been better since taking mounjaro though which is good

Great to see you’ve seen a reduction in your BG levels @JULIE D even if you’ve not seen much of a weight loss, yes you will need to keep an eye on your BG levels as you increase the dose of Mounjaro, whilst taking insulin

I’ve now been on the 7.5 for about 6 weeks now in fact I have a review with my GP next week
in readiness for moving me up to the 10mg dose (when I get my next repeat)

since moving the Mounjaro dose up from 5mg to 7.5mg
I’ve reduced my evening insulin from 8units down to 6 but currently keeping my morning Insulin at the same 8units, to give you an idea pre Mounjaro think I was taking 12units of insulin (NovaMix twice daily)
Im still losing weight infact reduced BMI from just over 33 down to just under 28 in about 6 months since I started Mounjaro, also as I have previously posted am more active

I wonder how others who have previously posted on this thread are getting on with it ?
