Mounjaro Monday - week 20 update.

Hello All,

As per an earlier post last week, I have managed to hit 65lbs lost. Delighted with this. I think this is the most I have ever lost in any weight loss effort. I still can’t believe I have stuck to this for so long! No quitting, no looking back.

Mounjaro symptoms wise - absolutely nothing to report. Things are going smoothly enough - I do get quite hungry now, but I’m disciplined enough to know when to stop eating.

Exercise is going very well. I managed to leg press my total body weight for the first time this week - super chuffed about that. It’s taken months of building up slowly to do it, but I’m finally there. I’m starting to feel some bicep muscle coming in now too. I’m walking an awful lot when I get the chance. Exercise now feels like a normal part of life.

A little non-scale victory this week. I bumped into one of my best friend’s mum. She hadn’t seen me in quite a while and she was really complimentary about my weight loss - she told me I looked fantastic and gave me a big hug. So nice of her.

Amid all the good things, I have had a little set back today. I was at my local pharmacy to pick up something when I noticed that they had a blood pressure machine - the kind you stick your whole arm in. I decided to give it a go as I hadn’t checked it since the beginning of the year when it was pretty high. I assumed that because of my weight loss and improved fitness that the reading would be good. However, it came out as a scary 164/91. It has really shaken me. I have booked in to see someone on Wednesday at the doctors. I have also been to my parents house and done a few readings on their little monitor, which came out much better. I am hoping that the reading at the pharmacy was a fluke/fault - but I’m not taking any chances. I don’t know what more I can do to lower my bp - so if it is really this high, I may have to go on meds. I’m quite worried - I have worked so hard on my health this last six months so this feels like quite a setback. Heart disease and diabetes go hand in hand and I am quite scared. Keeping things crossed for my appointment - but it just goes to show that you can’t take anything for granted on a health journey like this.

That’s everything for this week. Thanks as always for all the likes, kind comments etc.

Well done on another good week, try not to worry too much about your blood pressure, hopefully it will be fine when you go to the docs,

Regarding your blood pressure. Get yourself a monitor and take your own measurements when you are sat down and relaxed. Take three readings each time, a couple of minutes apart and note them down. Just do it every two or three days.

You have been on an incredible health journey but you need to take your blood pressure seriously as well. Your GP may well give you a monitor and ask you for some readings but there is often a wait for these monitors to be returned so you're better off getting your own.

I'm the other way and have low blood pressure 😉

Wow a 20% weight loss is amazing @Katetype2 . You can certainly see the difference in your face. Monitoring your blood pressure is probably a good idea but as with blood glucose look at the trend rather than a specific reading unless you feel very unwell. My hubby often has to submit BP readings over a weekly period to his doctor, so they have an overview in between reviews.
Remember some people can have high BP regardless of their weight.
The amount of work you have put in to increasing exercise and losing weight will improve your long term health.
Keep on going! Onwards and downwards  <3

Many congratulations on another great achievement.

I would suspect the BP machine was possibly playing up or perhaps you had just taken it after a brisk walk or something or maybe you got your arm in the wrong position. I believe it makes a difference if it is above or below the heart which is why wrist monitors are less reliable. Did you mention the result you got to the pharmacist and that you were surprised it was so high. If their machine is faulty then they need to be aware of it. Not saying it is faulty but they might have offered to take it for you with a proper cuff there and then just to double check.

Hi @Katetype2, I borrowed the brother in laws BP monitor the other week and the instructions included the following:

  1. Measurements should be taken in a quiet place and you should be in a relaxed, seated position. Make sure that the room is not too hot or cold.
  2. Avoid eating, smoking, or exercising for at least 30 minutes before taking a measurement.
  3. Do not move or talk during measurement
Its possible that one or more of these may have been a factor in the pharmacy. Other than that congrats on your ongoing activities, your a positive example to all.
