Hi Ira
I've only just read this thread, welcome to the list, everyone is so lovely and nice.
I just wanted to quickly say that if somewhere has a great adults clinic do not for one minute think that that would follow to the children's clinic. Take what Tom says. The Eastbourne adult team are good. The Eastbourne childrens team are awful. I can tell you that the same consultant is still there and the other month she told a 9 year old that if she didn't get her levels down she would chop her legs off.
So many teams around the UK do not carb count (I can only talk about paediatric teams and not adults). It is awful. It will be so important that you find a good hospital. In my eyes a good, progressive team is one that offers all regimes from MDI to pumps and teach carb counting and have annual reviews and offer psyhcologists and feet checking service etc etc. If they put children on two injections, this is not a good team, those insulins need banning. I only know one child who is out of honeymoon and who has been on mixes for donkey's years who it suits and levels are fine.
There are few hospitals around. One of the best in the UK is the UCLH (University College London Hospital) so if you were thinking of Norwich area or around there you could easily travel into London for your care. I am on the south coast and go to UCLH. The care is second to none and the main DSN (there are three) is acknowledged as fantastic by teams up and down the UK. At the UCLH there is Prof Hindmarsh who is superb and cares.
There are a few other teams who are also good. Leeds is another one under Dr Fiona Campbell.
I hope that helps a bit. 🙂
