If this is something you would not normally see I would suspect that you may have had something on your finger and it would have been wise to repeat the test after washing your hands.
I don't think taking or not taking the metformin would have affected it.
If you are consistently getting high morning readings it could be you are getting Foot on the floor syndrome when blood glucose goes high as soon as you get up, so try before even getting out of bed and see if that makes a difference.
Thanks very much that's very helpfulIf this is something you would not normally see I would suspect that you may have had something on your finger and it would have been wise to repeat the test after washing your hands.

Could be a bit of Dawn Phenomenon involved as well.Hi all. My reading this morning was 13.0 this was before having my metformin. 2 hours later it dropped to 7.0. What are normal readings before medication? I have been eating few more carbs lately so think that's the reason for high reading.
Is Burylancs from where you live? I lived in Rochdale well Healey actually and went to Bury Grammar School in the sixties.Could be a bit of Dawn Phenomenon involved as well.
My morning readings are always hypo...and midnight I am always Hyper...I take 10-12 units of Lantus at night...but must admit the alcohol in my bloodstream lowers the sugar levels overnight...sad.Hi all. As a newbie to all this, can I ask what the point is of the morning reading? I understand it's an 8-10 hour fast but what do the readings tell us? Mine varies greatly from day to day but averages about 8.2.
Thanks
