Hi having discovered I have prediabetes, I bought a blood monitoring test kit, and have had some strange results, I follow a low carb diet and have lost a lot of weight since January, but had a blood test indicating prediabetes 44 on the Hb test a couple of weeks ago. My strange results include higher fasting blood glucose than post prandial, lower fasting blood sugar after eating cake the day before, and higher fasting blood glucose when in ketosis. I just wondered if this was typical.

Low carb diet can cause fasting BG to be slightly higher - it's a known phenomenon that affects non-diabetics as well. (Although it's only a small rise. If you're seeing a large rise it's due to your pre-diabetes and things not working properly.)

Also, eating a lot of carbs can reset the 'higher' set point. This is why before an oral glucose test, people are told to eat some carbs. (Carb loading.) You might be seeing this with your cake.
