In remission from Type 2
My heels have been quite hard and dry over recent weeks so I started to rub some Neutrogena hand cream on them every morning. Miraculous result. My heels now feel smooth and firm. We always have Neutrogena in the house during winter, so it was to hand.

Bearing in mind that we have to pay particular attention to our feet I would be interested to know if anyone's using something other than Neutrogena as a moisturiser.

Hi @Anitram I use Flexitol with 10% Urea Cream issued by the Podiatrist at the hospital, works a treat. More information here www.Flexitol.co.uk.

I find what cream suits is very personal, I was prescribed one once first diagnosed over 16 years ago, I found it no better than anything else. Though my CCG no longer allow it to be on prescription as it can be purchased over counter.
I only use foot cream at night if I need it , as i would get blisters.

I also get Flexitol on prescription, holding breath that continues. I always thought it was 10% urea, but noticed recently it's 25%. Works really well for me.

I have not tried myself as Flexitol effective, but have heard that udder cream (from farming suppliers!) is wonderful!

Many CCG's stopped an number of items that could be bought over the counter a couple of years ago. It was well reported in the press,

Yes, I was aware of this, presumably Flexitol not one of these items for my CCG, or some others as the box is labelled 'Prescription Pack'.
Postcode lottery as usual!

I don't know I am not sure it was Flexitol , I was prescribed. I only ever had the once as I did not think what I was prescribed, was any better than what I bought myself.

Vaseline body lotion, the one with aloe vera is what I use on my feet, very good stuff xx

I have had dry cracked skin on my hands and feet all my life and tried everything including Udder Cream, Neutrogena, O'Keeffe's and Vaseline lotion. Flexitol (25% urea) was the best product I had tried and I used to buy it in bulk..... That was until I discovered Margaret Dabbs Foot Hygiene Cream about 4 years ago and it has absolutely revolutionised my foot health. I live in wellies most of the time and I am out working in the cold and wet all winter and this product has kept my feet supple and Athletes foot at bay. If I could only choose one skin care product, this would be it, even over and above facial moisturiser or body lotion. Having feet (and hands as I use it on my hands too) which are not painful is a huge benefit for me after years of suffering the daily pain of keens.

Keens are raw splits in thick dry skin which often occur on heels but I also get them on the sides of the joints and nails on my fingers/thumbs and big toes and they are really painful.
Callouses are just thick patches of skin and not generally painful at all.

Have to say I've used CCS on my feet in the past and didn't find it made any difference as compared to whatever other body lotion/hand cream I happened to have to hand which I usually apply just after showering, when the pores are open and so it soaks into the skin more readily. The main difference therefore was cost. The CCS does NOT soak in for ages either hence when you slap it on after a shower, you can't move very far at all unless you want to wipe it off all over the carpets (other floorings are available) you'd really like to keep looking decent for years. I have not been tempted to invest in more.

I use cheap and cheerful coconut body butter for the rest of my body but it just isn't nourishing enough for my feet.
