Hi there, in the evening we nibble nuts while waiting to put the dinner on. Mrs says they are good for you especially Wallnuts which contain Omega 3. I must admit they are moreish and we eat a good handfull each evening. We can buy them loose from Lidl and they are very good value when compared to the other supermarkets. Is it a good thing to eat nuts when you are peckish? What are your views?

I love nuts too! Especially walnuts and pecans. I think they're great, but I try to not eat too many at once as I could easily eat a whole packet, and they are quite high in fat!
I try to but whole nuts so that I have to shell them to eat... That slows me down:D

I love to snack on nuts too. Especially walnuts and almonds

Mmm, love walnuts, almonds & pecans! Nuts make a great snack... As long as you don't have too many 🙄

I snack on nuts too, but I know some people have problems with them raising blood sugar, and some of them have more carbs than others. Walnuts are very low carb though, and I think the high fat content of nuts generally is offset by the high fibre content!

Nuts, yum! They're a healthy fat, in moderation of course like all yummy things. I find Brazils and almonds don't raise my BG, but peanuts (my fav, boo hoo) can cause sustained highs much later. Happy munching, Austin Mini.:D

As I said before Lidl have a good selection on loose nuts. They also sell 200g Alesto nuts, brazils, mixed nuts, walnuts, cashews etc at very comperative prices compared to the 'big four'.

Peanuts aren't actually nuts - they are in a different category - my head says legumes ??? is that right?

They are indeed legumes. They have nitrogen fixing root nodules, like pea and bean plants ( you could probably have lived without knowing that last bit, but I thought I'd chuck it in for good measure)

Crop rotation - clover - to put the nitrogen back into the soil when it's going through that stage of it's rotation! LOL Not sure under which heading that fell at school though - Geography or History - wasn't Latin anyway LOL as I have no idea what Latin for clover might be!

Trifolium apparently - apparently 4 leafed ones couldn't have existed in Ancient Rome - maybe that was why Julius got stabbed and Rome burned ???????

Edit - Oh - Pete's just said that makes it sound like the two events were linked ......)
