What would you do injection wise if you missed a meal, mainly wanting to know about the lunch meal?

I'd omit short acting insulin for a meal I didn't eat.

So does this mean you'd just do the next meal injection as normal ie same amount you'd normally inject for this meal?

I just wait till I'm ready to eat before bolusing again, don't often miss lunch but work commitments in the past have meant that I've skipped lunch and had a earlier tea than normal.

I missed my lunch today, didn't feel particularly hungry, been a busy girl......so i'm now having an early tea, so i guess i'll just do my bolus injection for this meal.

Think I'd be tempted to do a test first just to see how things are going 🙂

Before next meal, I'd check my blood sugar and give myself a dose appropriate to what I plan to eat (mainly carbohydrate content), reading (correction dose if needed) and what I plan to do physical activity wise in the next few hours eg clear out a store room, chop wood, cycle, run, kayak etc.

I normally just omit my injection for the missed meal and then inject as normal for the next meal. I always test before eating/injecting so would know whether any adjustment needed adding in - sometimes your liver reacts to lack of food by outputting extra glucose and causing your levels to increase. In theory, your basal/slow insulin should cover you between meals and if you miss a meal (hence basal testing, where you miss a meal to check if you have the correct basal dose) 🙂

That's the beauty of MDI that you just eat when your hungry. It shouldn't be a problem if your basal insulin is set at the right dose, just remember to test before eating your tea in case you need to include a correction dose.
