Well clearly your thyroid prob isn't really a prob, it's just minor.

Some woman on hols once was telling us about their mate (most likely another Bob) who cut his foot and didn't realise (cos obv you don't if you're diabetic, do you?) and of course it dropped off. And I said that I'd been D for 40+ years and so far no complications. And she snapped right back - Well - obviously yours can't possibly be as BAD as his then, can it?

I actually was rendered speechless. Pete however thinks more quickly and replied No - it doesn't signify at all how good bad or indifferent anyone's diabetes is - but OBVIOUSLY - it shows that Jen's must be far better controlled than his - and she puts in one heck of an effort to make sure it is! - so one must assume - he didn't, did he?

When returning from a holiday in Egypt I explained at check-in that one small bag for hand luggage had my diabetes supplies in including needles etc but had Dr's letter. The response was a five minute talk about how his grandma was cured by taking this marvellous plant extract and wrote all the details down for me (in arabic!!). The rest of the queue were not amused but I hadn't been given my boarding card so couldn't walk away and he was so genuinely concerned and helpful - even if he was talking a load of rubbish - but then I couldn't explain all that in arabic!!!

Another of my poems :D

Stop right there- it’s the Diabetes Police!
I know you made some effort with that diet and exercise stuff,
But look – your levels are rising! You didn’t try hard enough!
I saw you eat that chocolate! I saw you with that pie!
Not food for diabetics, a fact you can’t deny!

So please come with me quietly, you’ll find that we know best,
We might release you with a warning, after you’ve confessed –
You can manage diabetes easily, but only if you try!
Admit we know much more than you, and please don’t question why!

You want to know what qualifies me to talk to you this way?
OK, then I’ll be honest and explain it if I may.
I don’t have diabetes, don’t really have a clue,
But I know it’s caused by sugar, and being fat and lazy too!

That gives me every right to say when you don’t feel so good,
You’ve brought it on yourself you fool, and don’t eat what you should!
We’ll lock you in a cake-free cell and throw away the key,
So try to exercise self-control, and model yourself on me!

{{{phone rings}}}

Excuse me, I have to answer this, it’s about my glucose test…
My goodness! What’s come over me? I must sit down and rest!
He says I’m diabetic! That makes me just like you!
How terrible! How frightening! Please – tell me what to do! 😱 :D
