Hi,

Has anyone ever been misdiagnosed as type 1 when they were actually type 2?

It was all a bit confusing to be honest, I was diagnosed type 1 while I was in hospital with an illness and put on insulin, then after a couple of months was taken off insulin and put on Metformin as they said not sure what I am, Type1, Type2 or Type 3c.
I have had some blood test recently and will find the results out tomorrow as I have an appointment with Diabetic specialist Dr. we know I am not Type1, but tomorrow will tell me if I am type2 or Type 3c what ever that is.
The worst thing for me was telling DVLA that I was insulin dependent and loosing some of my driving licence entitlements.
 
However @JoeJOns your diagnosis with T1 came from a DKA admissions to hospital.
That is pretty conclusive for T1, and very rare in T2.

No getting away from it you are one of us now, and already doing very well
 
What SB said plus your age! Classic T1 presentation, as seen in medical textbooks!

It's when people don't have Classic symptoms that the confusion arises - a good mate of mine didn't have classics AND was 50+, so diagnosed T2 and it took her EIGHT years to get that properly changed to T1. (Alan Shanley had been telling her online for years that she wasn't T2 before I even knew she existed)
