Hi,

Very excited as I just worked out that I am finally in club 200s!

This is a slightly vulnerable post because I have been hiding my start weight out of shame. But, the time has come to cough up and make it part of my story.

On 18th November 2024, I was weighing in at a whopping 23st 2lbs. As of this morning I am 21st 5.8lbs - which is 299.8lbs!

I. AM. IN. CLUB. 200s!

Only just - but still, Il will take it!

Mounjaro day 1 has been fine. I feel no difference at all. No appetite suppression, no anything yet. We continue to wait and hope that it’s doing its job.

Hope you have all had a great day 🙂

You're doing such a phenomenal job and you're an inspiration to many. Congratulations on your mini milestone!:star:

Awesome job Kate. I know just how hard it is to lose weight. I hit 18st in late 2020 and it's taken me a good while to get down to my fighting weight.

I'm convinced though that losing it at a moderate speed has helped it stay off.

Congrats and keep at it, I was over 17.5st at my heaviest and heading towards 18st!
Feel so much better now some of the weight has gone, but still more to go....
We can do this..... 😎

Congratulations on your weight loss and reaching your milestone. You can do this!

Well done. I was almost 14 stone when diagnosed in July. I had always made an effort to keep just below 14 stone but remembered a couple of times as I got fatter thinking " I must do something " but I didn't effectively. When given the body blow news I was diabetic I stopped pastry rice and other similar and remember the shock when my jeans fell down as I got on the scales. I lost 2lb a week before joining here and starting medication. I was pleased when my sister noticed - her doctor put her in a study of people who are permanently slim. Despite being knocked off course by taking a drug that requires carbs i have lost two stone and want to lose more. When things overwhelm me I still have a secret smile. It feels good doesn't it.

Wahooooo! :party::party::party::party::party::party:

Amazing stuff @Katetype2 we are so proud of you! You are doing amazingly, and that’s a milestone that really deserves celebrating :star::star::star::star::star:

Well done. What have you been doing to lose weight? I have a friend who has been told she has to lose weight before she can have surgery. She is diabetic too. I have given her Michael Moseley's books but does not seem to be motivated at all. If she doesn't lose it she will be turned down for surgery again. She is about 4 feet 10 inches and 16 stone so the BMI is very high.

I don't really know what to suggest and don't feel I have the right to tell her what to eat or what to do anyway but just wondered what you have done.

It may depend what medication she is on, her food preferences and cooking facilities. I was told in June my cholestral had crept up. I decided to stop sweets puddings pastry and red and processed meat. I asked for a diabetes test and it was 69. I cut back further and next reading was 64. I ate mainly fish cheese eggs veg and salad and was amazed I was losing 2lbs a week. Initially I was trying to lower my cholestral but then I also paid attention to carbs. In August I discovered the forum and started full fat yoghurt and berries or mushroom omlette for breakfast. I have a greedy gene. I am still capable of overeating so try not to buy bad items or having taken a portion leave them in the car boot so I have to ,make a positive decision to get them. I try to eat mindfully and look at what a normal portion is. My everso slim sister buys a ready meal for one often eats half and leaves in fridge for next day. I buy a two person ready meal eat half intending to leave some for the next day .. I now move more a ten minute walk after eating is good plus swimming.
However given she is diabetic seriously overweight and has been turned down for an op surely her surgery will want to help with diet exercise and possibly a psychologist. I bet she reads the book you got her and I bet she doesn't tell you.
Are you diabetic? Could you share a meal at her home or outside? Deep down she must feel so bad.
I have been fat for a very long time. I've tried diets half heartedly but never low carb and took it as a bonus following the devastating news I was diabetic.
I don't know how you can motivate your friend. I think my best friend should have given me a good talking to but I only changed my eating habits when hit with health problems.
The freshwell site is great but this GP practice not only has a lovely photo of deers in the forest but a really useful site layout re diabetes and also weight loss.

It maybe you can give more help as a supportive friend rather than a food policeman

What a great start! You are well on the way to having lost 10% of your starting weight. I know when we start something, we think about the end goal, but perhaps when it comes to your trimming up, smaller goals could be helpful, so that you have periodic wins.

I've not done a huge amount of reading into Mounjaro, but most of those sorts of drugs are started on low doses, which are increased over time.

Don't stress over fast weight loss. It can be good for your body and skin if the loss is steady.

Again. Well done.

Thank you for all the information. I never think diets work to be honest but the low carb idea I find very good.

My friend and I do go out sometimes. Unfortunately, she has IBS and thinks it is caused by veg and salad, also dairy so won't eat any of them. She still has IBS so I cannot see how it can be these foods personally. She will at a meal ask them to leave the veg off and give her loads of chips. She was sent to Slimming World by her GP to help with weight loss but they told her potatoes were a "free food" and to have as much as she likes of it which I personally feel is not good advice for a diabetic. She did manage to lose a small amount of weight but got stressed and put it back on.

My own view from when I eat out with her is that she has too many carbs which make her hungry so she eats more. It does tend to become a vicious circle when you have a lot of weight to lose particularly when your mobility is restricted waiting for knee surgery. like hers is.ove I can fully understand her lack of motivation.

Cholesterol is a strange one. I have friends who eat hardly any fat and theirs is sky high. I know another who is overweight and happy to be so and her blood sugars are fine and her cholesterol is very low. She eats butter, cream, cheese, red meat, chocs everything. Good luck to her if she can get away with it.

Red meat does not affect me personally and my friend I know would not give that up. I hope she will have some success soon.

Thank you for all the post. I am not diabetic but pre-diabetic. I got myself back to normal thanks to all the help on here but, unfortunately, last year it crept back up a bit so now I am battling it again.

Quite a few people have found that low carb improves their IBS symptoms and also can reduce cholesterol. Healthy fats can also reduce the bad cholesterol and increase the good but the body makes cholesterol and it is needed for all sorts of functions, tissue healing, hormone synthesis but obviously too much of the wrong sort is what is bad.
I think people have misconceptions about what they can and can't eat rather than making their choices on actual facts.

Thank you Leadinglights. I thought that low carb could improve IBS. I think my friend would be much better off if she could just lower the carbs. Since I have lowered mine I have found I am very rarely hungry.
