I have cut out a lot saturated fats/dairy from my diet due to fatty liver - I don't have any cheese or yoghurt but have milk in tea...

Q - Does milk contain sugar??

I tend to have semi-skimmed (green top) or the new red top (1% fat). As I'd like to have a glass of milk a day I want to ensure I'm drinking the right type OR should I just test before and after??
 
Milk has lactose ( a type of sugar) in it.

The label on the bottle should tell you how many. Lactose can be broken down fairly rapidly so you might consider having the milk after a meal rather than by itself. (If that makes sense)

Just been on the Dairy Council website and can confirm that both
skimmed and semi-skimmed milk has sugar - the 1% fat milk has nonel but higher calorie and higher in saturated fats...

Skimmed and semi skimmed will have more carbs/lactose. Additionally without the fat to slow it down, I believe it will hit the bloodstream faster than full fat milk.

What is best for your BG does not always fit with indtructions for a diet very low in fat 🙄
 
As others have said, milk (from cows - all varieties) does contain some sugar, but it is also a good source of lots of other nutrients eg calcium. The best fat content is for you to decide - we buy mainly 1% milk just now, as it's often the cheapest, at ?1 for 4 pints or 2 litres. If 1% is not available, or skimmed or semi-skimmed is reduced to cheaper prices, then we buy that.

Plus, "a little bit of what you like, does you good" 🙂
 
Having converted to skimmed milk several years ago I can't bear to drink even 1% fat milk! 😱 I used to drink a lot of milk, but since diagnosis I have stopped, chiefly because it is a fast-acting carb. Having said that though, I might start having a glass after a run to replenish my glycogen stores - am currently having a Belvita biscuit afterwards, but a refreshing glass of cool milk would be better! 🙂
 
As I have very limited dairy I am now concious of how I get calcium hence buying the 1% milk which I'm going to have with my dinner. 🙂
 
Semi-skimmed has the most carbs, whole milk is a tad lower and skimmed has the least. For a pint, that's 27g, 26g and 25g respectively. Hardly worth bothering to change just for that purpose.

But calories (and fat) are a different story. Per pint

Whole - 379 cals, 23g fat
Semi - 264 cals, 9.75g fat
Skim - 184 cals, 1.14g fat

Please yourself ! :D
 
When i was a kid i used to drink 3 pints a day ! I used to hate having to eat all the time ! This is well before inslin adjusting & blood testing (1960s) All i could stand is milk with everything. Havnt broken any bones yet ? 😉
