I was the same Matthew maybe 1 litre per day full fat.
I stopped immediately and have not gone onto the semi or fully skimmed milk.
The carb difference between them is something like 1 gr
I only every now drink unsweetened soy milk which has a zero carb content and i drink it, when I am in the UK, the saem way I used to drink cows milk.

Some find they may have to cover the milk with insulin, 100ml has around 5g carbs xx

I usually have unsweetened almond milk which depending on brand is carb free or very, very low.
Still have a splash of regular in tea.

.... and we have full fat milk in all our hot drinks and cookery. The carb content of milk rises by a gnats whisker as you remove the fat from it, but the carb content of it is so negligible anyway, unless you drink more than 100ml at any one go, you may well not notice any effect whatever.

In the old days when I was diagnosed , your daily dose of insulin was calculated to take into account how much milk you drank each day as well as everything else you consumed. My regular intake of milk in drinks is similar every day and I suppose - because I don't ever bolus for it - I must take it into account in my basal insulin - but I've never actually considered it!

Before I was diagnosed with diabetes used to drank gallons of full fat milk don’t touch the stuff at all now stick to semi skimmed even through the night was drinking far to much of it now I know why because of my thirst back then

Try the unsweetened Alpro Almond Matthew, it is really nice to drink on it's own. 0 carbs

Thankyou I will
@Kaylz is a wonder at knowing where special offers are on.
Iceland, Morrisons and other places sell it. Last time I was in both of those which was in January before I left, it was £1 per litre. May have changed by now.

@Vince_UK I just check the supermarket websites to check if its on a deal so anyone with internet access can manage it themselves xx

When I was at School I was on a fixed insulin dose of x units. 1960s. I was down for 50g of carbs every meal & I was sick of eating. To get me to school I used to drink milk & it on some days it was 6 pints. Strong bones & teeth :D. Only broke my back ribs & front ribs after many years of being a stunt man :D(no)

My GP actually warned me against going to Soya milk. Can't remember the reason though.

My sister in-law drinks coconut milk due to various dietary restrictions. Not sure how carby that is.

I must admit I've failed to give up drinking lattes! That's probably worth 10g carb each.

I still have milk in my coffee, which I don’t need to bolus for It has to be Lactofree though else 18F4F282-B034-4382-8273-72B7E914250C.gif .

I was diagnosed in March 2018 with T2 and had drank semi skimmed milk for 30-40yrs, at a course I am now doing for T2 diabetes, it was recommended we all drank full fat milk rather than SS! So you can see I am well confused reading these opposite views.

Just finishing a Diabetes nutrition course, and we were encouraged to drink full cream mild instead of SS. Prior to this advice I have been drinking SS for at least 4 decades. In March 2018 I was told I was just inside the diabetes range but did not need medication as it can be managed with a change in eating and more exercise. So along comes this 6 week course and the advice is watch carbs intake, but use real butter and full cream milk, and don't be afraid of fats. So when I read the posts here I am well confused. I have cut out all bread, reduced most potato and pasta consumption as well. Avoid processed foods where possible. And I gather skimmed milk is processed, in fact someone in the class described it as white water with the goodness removed!
Strangely we were encouraged to visit the diabetes.org website as its is more 'in tune' with current thinking, whatever that is?

I think the confusion comes because full fat milk is recommended as the fat it contains may help slow down the absorption of the carbohydrate in it. I've just checked the milk in my fridge. The full fat has 4.7g carb per 100ml, the semi skimmed has 5.0g per 100ml, so there's not really an awful lot of difference. As a type 1, if I had a 200ml glass, I'd need a whole unit of insulin for it, whichever type I drank.

Interesting. I started drinking skimmed many years ago (nothing to do with D) and I can't stand the taste of whole milk now. I have a teeny tiny drop of skim in tea (or have black tea) and a more substantial splash in coffee. Even semi skimmed tastes a bit too rich for me now.

I'm exactly the same - been drinking skimmed for decades and even semi is like drinking lard to me now 😱 I only have milk in tea and coffee nowadays, but still manage to get through 4 pints in about 5-6 days. Before I was diagnosed, and without recognising the symptoms I was drinking up to 40 pints a week - now I realise it's because a) I was thirsty and b) my body was craving sugar, which water couldn't supply.

I know its not perfect but if I am going low, I always go for milk & chock digestives. Its in my head & I get a kick out of that. 😉. Well before pucozade was about. 6 pints a day in my youth. Broke my front & back ribs but STRONG BONES & TEETH :D
