Milk chocolate v dark chocolate

Can you still get Caramac?
My last memory of it was an awesome Caramac baked cheesecake a friend made. Not sure I have had it since my diagnosis but surely there would be plenty of fat to slow down the carb/glucose digestion.

With the exception of Caramac cheesecake, cheese and chocolate are two things that I tend to keep apart despite both going well with red wine. Recently, I read that milk chocolate goes with Port but I have not had a chance to try it out.
I remember eating Caramac before my diagnosis (nine years ago) but I haven't looked for it recently, given that I can resist anything except temptation. As far as I'm concerned only stilton goes with port - and proper stilton, not that 'stilton soaked in port' rubbish that appears at Christmas 🙄

As for Cadburys chocolate. I went to Cadbury World about a month after my diagnosis. It was my first memory of injecting in public. I wasn’t confident in whether I could eat chocolate so tried the diabetic stuff. Thankfully, it has since been banned in the UK. Otherwise, I would have banned it due to the terrible taste.
Nowadays, I prefer Tony’s chocolate. It has a great story as well as great taste. I am hoping it doesn’t go the same way as Green and Blacks and get taken over by one of the big guys. That would be a sell out too far.

You certainly can still get Caramac chocolate bars, they are delicious but rather sweet, wasn't that long ago since I had one, possibly in a garage whilst getting diesel.

Fav is Galaxy chocolate, nothing comes close.

Oooh! Caramac (drool) Haven’t had it for years, but it was a firm favourite when I was a child. I'd probably eat the whole bar at one sitting, so it’s probably just as well I don’t actively look for it when I shop. I also liked the really dark bars of After Eight chocolate that you could buy, probably a weird choice for a child. Nowadays, I hone in on co-op own brand 85% dark.

An observation re my threads which makes me laugh. Whenever thry are about statins or chocolate there is a huge response. Hilarious. Hope you all had a lovely BH weekend.

Have always preferred dark chocolate but was only given milk chocolate as a child and at that age chocolate is well........ chocolate!
It's utterly heartbreaking to see what's happened to Cadburys.
Always have a bar of Waitrose 72% belgium chocolate in the cupboard and have a square every couple of days. Saying that it used to cost £1.75 for the 180g bar it's now £3.25!!

I love chocolate although I am not overly keen on chocolate mousse, cake, milkshakes etc
I could quite happily eat a massive bar of Cadbury whole nut even though it's not as nice as it used to be.
I'm also fond of Lindt chilli chocolate although it's a bit carby.
These days I buy the 85% from Lidl (occasionally waitrose if I happen to be in there) and have a couple of squares to satisfy any chocolate cravings.

Used to do the same here 🙂 but now my chocolate & hazelnut chocolate of choice is the Ritter Sport Dark Whole Hazelnut. Better quality, more nuts and as a smaller bar I don't feel quite as guilty scoffing the lot in an evening (only very occasionally mind!)

We noticed the ALDI 70% chocolate bars have shot up in price, they used to be 1.29 and now well over £2, £2.29 I think.

Lovely chocolate. Haven't seen a Ritter's chocolate bar for ages. Though to be fair I mostly skip the chocs and sweets aisle these days.

I'm sure I see them in petrol stations: I don't think I've ever tried one though.

They are really nice. I first tried them when I lived in Germany many years ago.

So glad to hear Caramac is still available (will have a look for it at my local shop tomorrow) - I usually go for the 75% stuff but will definitely seek out a Caramac for old times sake (a few squares are fine for me usually due to the fat content slowing everything down 🙂)

When Cadbury brought out Old Jamaica, alongside of it they also brought out another bar the same size, but instead of rum flavoured raisins (wouldn't be actual rum since Cadbury's ethos being Quaker was strictly alcohol free, never any establishment that sold it ever allowed on BVT land) this one was full of candied peel. I loved it but was obviously one of the few since it disappeared donkey's ages ago - can't even remember what it was called, now.

No way could I ever face another Caramac, having seriously overdosed on them in the couple of months before I was diagnosed with T1. Stood to reason why once I had been diagnosed - whole body craving glucose ......

Just wondered if anyone has dared to try the latest chocolate 'sensation ' The Dubai pistachio one? There were a handful in Waitrose, but at £10 a bar, that was way too much for a test (or a taste).

I bought a cheap Turkish knockoff to try when I was there because it was on offer. It was nice but nothing special. Pistachio and pistachio flavoured things are more of a thing out there, I think a lot are home grown.

No but I have eaten Mozartkugeln which are large truffle type chocolates with layers of pistachio marzipan and normal almond marzipan. Very rich so one is definitely enough.
