Hi I have been on metformin for approx 3 months, does this mean I have to take it for life or can I come off it if I bring my blood sugar levels back to normal.

We can't tell you that, only that 'it depends' !

First question , how long did you have undiagnosed type 2 diabetes? - cos it doesn't suddenly appear overnight - can be years before you either have a symptom and seek medical help or alternatively the GP is doing a test for summat else and you happen to be of an age/have a family history where he thinks he may as well test that too whilst taking blood for summat else.

Hi. If you have any excess weight and can reduce that thru a low-carb diet you may well be able to stop the Metformin. Otherwise it depends on what your future HBA1C is

Hi @zola116 My only knowledge of people coming off Metformin is those who used LCHF to get their Type 2 Diabetes into remission (as I did). Though some of them decide keep taking Metformin for reasons other than diabetes.

We have had a number of forum members over the years who have reached a point where they have agreed with their Dr that they no longer need to take the metformin.

Not that their is any problem with taking medication long term if your body needs it (I think as a T1 this is a bit easier, because medication will never be optional for me 🙂 )

Best to continue making positive changes to your menu, and to try to lose any extra weight you may be carrying.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on 🙂
