Hi everyone, I was originally put on 509mg Metformin which after a week caused severe stomach pains so was changed to Glycazide by my GP. Only lasted on them for a few days as the nurse said I should try again with Metformin but the slow release version.
I took 1 tablet a day for the first few days, felt a little unwell but was manageable, as I increased to 2 tablets a day the stomach cramps and fatigue/nausea has returned .

I know I am new to all this but I am impatient, I am continuing to take 2 tablets but can’t really function as a human right now, how long before this passes??????
 
Hi. My tummy problems took about 10 days to settle. If it doesn't settle please go back to your doctor. Good luck and try to be patient. Diabetes is a long game that you can win lol

It might not settle - I had over a month of terrible side effects until I threw out the tablets - but I never needed them in the first place, so if you decide you can't take any more it isn't something to lose sleep over.
 
If you really cannot stomach them Mrs G then your doctor might be able to give you something else. I absolutely needed them at the beginning of my journey, well, basically, because I didn't know what I was doing. Metformin helped me on my way when I was learning what I could and couldn't eat. And then by the time I was able to stop the metformin -18 months later - I had a better idea of how to manage the transition. I am not giving advice it's just that some of us might need more help than others, medication wise. Good luck.
 
Sorry to hear the tablets aren’t treating you too kindly @Mrs G

I think some members find that taking Metformin alongside a low carbohydrate meal is easier than taking them with a higher carb load.

Hope your tum settles soon.
