Now I’ve stopped taking insulin. Just on 3, 500mg Metformin one with each meal. 52hrs without insulin figures all in the low to high 4,s . Last night after Dinner I got a 4.0 as I understand it I shouldn’t get hypos now. Will I be ok going to bed on a 4.0? or should I have a small snack?( I had an apple last night). Don’t want to eat if I don’t need to.

You shouldn’t get hypos on Metformin-only as far as I understand it.

Though if you are worried it probably wouldn’t hurt to have 5g or so of carbs - half a biscuit, or a cracker or two.

Non-Ds do get readings at/around the low 4s and high 3s, but don’t generally go ‘properly’ hypo because there’s no extra agent (insulin or hypoglycaemic med) pushing their BGs lower and their liver usually responds to balance things.

A medium sized apple would have more like 15-20g of carbs. If you wanted a lighter carb load with fruit maybe a plum would be enough?

Okay thank you I'll keep an eye on it and chose a smaller carb next time.

If 5g carb or less and you want a full biscuit try Tesco Vanilla Viennese thins, they are about 4g per biscuit and absolutely amazing!! :D x

I don't like going to bed with 5, cos I feel weird when I'm on low 4s...normally have slice of bread or summat. Just to be safe cos the spiders and flies wouldn't help me with a hypo.

I'm in the 4"s most of the time so it doesn't seem to effect me. I only notice a change at around 3.8 or lower.
