i have been taking metformin for three weeks now, when i try to walk anywhere apart from my home i get bad indigestion and pain round my back also a slight headache, would the metformin cause this?

Ack, you have my sympathy.

The stomach pains sound likely side effects. Metformin can play havoc with your tum, but this can improve with time. I'm on Metformin and it took a while to stop giving me diarrhoea.
If the stomach pains don't improve or you really can't stand it, talk to your doctor who can give you something else or maybe change your treatment regime.
I'm not sure about the headaches though, that's no a recognised side effect.

Hope that helps, if only a bit

Rachel

hi pikeking sound very familier to what i get r.e the pain in the back but i didn not put that down to metformin i would echo what rachel said and see your Gp and get your pills changed or at least tell them the symptoms your getting on the metformin

I was on Metformin for about 6 years , after the first few week sI stopped feeling so sick and the queasy feeling went away totally , mention it to your GP though .

Go see your GP, the symptoms do settle after a while but if you find them too upsetting then it is worth getting them sorted. You can get things that hlp sort the tummy problems out.

Headaches are not a known side effect from metformin, but are still worth getting checked. It could be something as simple as eye strain, so it is worth getting your eyes checked (eye tests are free with the certificate). When I had lots of headaches, I got my eyes tested and saw my GP. Pills for high blood pressure sorted the headaches out as my BP needed lowering!
