I have been taken 1 x tab of Metformin *500mg since May and wondered if it is worth taken given the small dose, I tend to take it with my evening meal but I have been forgetting a lot. Would this have anything to do with the fact that my fasting numbers have been up recently. Just wondered what advantages such a small dose would have?

I have been very stressed of late, family wedding, moving house, new job, and to cap it all, discovered a leak on our roof which has to be lifted up. Just waiting on the insurance assessor to call next Wednesday!!

I just wondered as after the higher than normal morning readings (8.2) the bg levels come down to under 6 before my evening meal? Must admit this is stressing me out and probably counter productive:D

If your morning readings are usually higher it could be the dreaded Dawn effect. The body (the liver to be specific) kicks out a load of glucose in the mornings to get you out of bed and moving around. This means that most people's blood sugars are higher than usual in the mornings. I tested my blood pre-breakfast the other day and was quite impressed when i got 8.9. To be honest i was wondering much the same as you, i've stopped taking my metformin (1g at breakfast and 500mg after lunch or dinner, depending on when i remember) after having a horrid upset stomach and my doctor suggested i give it a rest. My blood sugars aren't that much worse than they were while i was taking the stuff. I think i'll start up again at the weekend and see what happens.

You could try taking your tablet at different times of the day and seeing what the effect is, at one stage i was contemplating taking my dose with every other meal to see what happened, but realised i'd probably only forget.
