Anyone managed a good medication exchange. Metformin and me don't seem to be getting on. But all the tablets look like they have side effects. So is it the devil you know.?

I'm not sure, 4 slow release Metformin were giving me hypos and stomach cramps 3 I'm not so bad on but still a bit nauseous and my BG is higher generally. But there now thinking the Metformin is blocking my thyroxine uptake. I'm nervous to try something new because I seem very reactive to meds.Sorry to hear Metformin isn’t suiting you @Karen999
Some side effects may read as being similar, but there’s no way of knowing if you might be affected without giving a different medication a go.
Not everyone gets every common side effect noted on every box. Some are able to switch and find the new meds suits them much better.
What options are you considering?
I am too but you must tolerate them to be on 4. We really can only say what works for ourselves. I should have said to see your provider as they know what will and what will not work for you. I think if you are having hypos I would see who takes care of your diabetes GP nurse or specialist. I hope you get sorted out soon. I know thyroid problems are not pleasant. So that alone might cause problems. Unfortunately, no one tick-box drug suits everyone thankfully there is always something to try. Thanks I'll look it up

If you read all the side effects on all drugs they cover themselves for most scenarios. Tis like in hospital side effect of an operation you can die but most still never do thankfully.I worried about Metformin maybe causing vitamin B12 deficiency.so would like to find is there alternative?
I been on it for years and take 2grams a day and in rare cases can cause DKA which I read on the leaflet that comes with the medication.
Hope you get the answers you need. Let us know how it goes. Others lookYa see GP Monday thanks for the reply.
