Feeling much better

Hi there.
Thanks for the replies. I seem to have adjusted to the metformin and haven't had any more bouts of diarrhoea thank god! I took people's advice to have the tablet in the middle of eating my meal. Before I was taking it after I had finished. Maybe that is what has made the difference as well as my body just getting used to it.
A question please.... I was out today and had a meal at a harvester. I had some salad, just lettuce, sweet corn, pineapple, tomato with low fat dressing with a chicken fajita wrap, small jacket potato and two tiny brown rolls with butter. My BS teo hours later was 10.5. The highest it's been since I started testing it.
The worrying thing is that my husband. Who had eaten exactly the same food decided to test his BS just to compare it to mine. It was 9.5. Should he go and see his doctor? He also has lots of weight to lose like me and I am wondering if he also could be Type 2 diabetic?
What do people think?
Thanks,
Chris xx 🙂

That was quite a lot of carbs - the tortilla, the spud and the rolls combined will have been quite high, and a lot to ask a poor overworked pancreas to cope with. Have you been given advice on how to reduce the carbs? As for you husband's reading, it's probably worth a visit to his GP to get tested.

To be honest that's a hell of a lot of carbs in one hit, hence you had a high bg level....one thing I did learn from the Desmond course brown and white bread really does not make any difference, only if you eat brown bread with seeds etc, as to your partner I would advice he goes to docs and have a test for his Hba1c to see what his bg levels have been like for the last 6 months?
let us no how you get on.

P.S rather than go to harvester make your own salad with chicken far more tasty and fresher, thats all I eat is chicken and salad, only to try and bring my blood levels down! 🙂

But as I said it sounds like you are having to many carbs hence high readings 🙂
Good luck

Yep it was a lot of carbs wasn't it. Not really sure why I chose what I did. I have always loved bread and rolls with butter and I have stayed right away from them for over a week but the temptation was just too much for me! But to have 2? That's just being greedy! And then the wrap and the potato. Sheer madness. I haven't had any advice as such about low carb dieting, just what I have read here and on other sites. I've just been looking at the carb contents and trying to minimise what I eat. It's so hard through. I feel a bit despondent at the moment.
I had a small bowl of quorn mince with mushrooms, onion and a tin of tomatoes for tea and will check after two hours.
I am trying to persuade my hubbie to get checked but he is reluctant. I suggested he check his fasting level tomorrow to see what that says.
Thanks,
Chris x

Well your BG will go up after a load of carbs, even if you aren't diabetic - but it should come back down again pdq and TBH I don't think it should go into double figures - more like the 8's or something like that - I know my DSN and I both tested about an hour after a sandwich lunch just to see, since we were discussing this very thing - and she was 7.9, I was about the same (7.6) so was quite pleased! LOL

So if someone who isnt diabetic tests two hours after food and its the same or higher than a diagnosed diabetic, does that not mean that they could have a problem or not?
This morning, my fasting level was 6.8 which is the lowest its been since I started testing and my husbands was 7.6. Does this indicate that he could have a problem?
Thanks,
Chris x:confused:

Hi Chris, a fasting level of over 7.0 would indicate that there might be a problem - does he have any symptoms? It would be worth getting a proper check.

Definitely worth getting your hubby checked out. An FBG over 7 is the diagnostic tool for T2.

FWIW ordinary metformin is 83p for 28 tabs. SR is ?2.88 for 28 tabs. Not a lot of money but I suppose if everyone were on SR it would mount up overall.

Just a comment on your Harvester meal as no one else has mentioned it - I find sweetcorn is a nightmare for increasing BGs.

I nhad this as well

Hi I had this after a couple of months I was put on slow release metformion which seemed to work my other problem did not become evident until I had a chest infection --- it went on and on ---- then I was asked if i was using ramipril I was then I was told all about ramipril cough --- a few days after stopping it I stopped coughing

Hi all,
I started on metformin 850mg twice a day after food on Friday. I have experienced some unpleasant stomach cramps and diarrhoea. I know these are listed as common side effects which will hopefully subside but I wondered if others have experienced this and how long it went on for?

Many thanks,
Chris x
