In Aug Id lost 11lbs in a few weeks + thirst and urination (48hrs). My GP did the HbA1bc .test.Type 1.5. LADA. suggested cos of sudden weight loss. Metformin given. 500 x 2. And some indeterminate food advice. Diabetes UK members have helped me through wit. h info advice & suggestions.
Dec HbA1bc 38 , high blood pressure . 7 day and 14 day average 6.9. GP now thinks TYPE 2. !

Note added.. How long does it take for glucose levels to rise? Yesterday I risked a small bought apple turnover at lunchtime (main meal).Post-meal reading wasn't mega high. The later readings were higher tho 10.2 & 6.4 -rise of 1 to1.5 above norm. Even todays a.m reading was up. Looking back this pattern has occurred b4 with risky items.
Is this usual- High 6hrs later ?
Is metformin& me unable to cope with sugary/floury items. Should I have a low carb day or just continue as norm and hope it corrects.

Yes there's flour in pastry - but also a large amount of fat. What does fat do to carbs? - slows down the speed at which those carbs will hit the bloodstream as glucose.

interesting to hear others have the same problems . it really is frustrating to see levels climbing after one has done almost everything possible to lower them. had a bizarre set of numbers today. BS level of 16.6 on waking !!! took my 500m g metformin then had a cup if tea followed by bacon eggs mushrooms and tomato . two hours later level was down to 7.5 !! WTH is going on ??

I suspect your waking reading was a bit rogue and perhaps you would have been wise to retest.
Metformin does not act directly on food don't forget.

to be honest the whole thing is confusing and really frustrating . some say go low carbs others say no eat carbs and the support from my DN and surgery is truly terrible. What I do know is despite going to a ridiculously healthy diet for months and exercising daily , I feel far worse than I did before !

Reading back through your thread, I think you really need to be going back to your GP to ask for the tests for Type 1 and referral to a specialist diabetes clinic as all the things you are doing are not working and you are feeling unwell. Although it will require a bit of leaning on your part, it might be worth considering insulin whilst waiting for a proper diagnosis, that might help will the weight loss.
If you have some evidence of what you have done and your blood glucose test results and a record of your weight loss to show your GP to back up your request that might help. I think you need to be proactive to get some action.

Brill hadnt heard that. Also The Times had along piece which was really about weight loss. One of the points was that if there's not much insulin in the body it can take 6 hours to deal with the glucose. !! A HA. I'll read more tonight

Thanks for your interest and points. My doc congratulated me
on my approach and success. I have to say if anyone else is reading this my weight fell away without trying. Too much . It must be the hardest thing - to have diabetes, get a grip on that diet BUT in addition to have to have a weight loss diet too !!!! o_O Tough. My hat off to you all

@Justin -when contacting, or seeing the doc write down, & spell out all the symptoms/unwellness youre experiencing. Docs work best with exact symptoms.
Ive had other illnesses & Ive learnt this.'' Writen down exact symptoms get listened to, avoids assumptions, gets best results '' Make sure you are given the chance to read them all out
eg constant headache , stomach ache immediately after meals, pain in right side upper chest . Those are imaginitive not exact examples. !!
I was a teacher excuse my direct approach 😉
