Hello all.
I've been experiencing problems now for quite a while and they have worsened over the last 3 months.
Symptoms include, bad constipation, pain in lower left abdomen and sometimes moving to my back, pain going to toilet and lately dizziness. I also have aches all over my body and very poor sleep. I'm not a happy chap at moment.
I had bowel cancer in 2015, successfully sorted by a wonderful team. Had section of bowel removed.
I was referred by my gp for a scan and colonoscopy and got the results today as all clear.
Now I need to see gp to sort out cause.
Doctor Google points me to metformin which I have taken as a type 2 for 20 years.
Anyone had similar problems?

Good to see that your scan and colonoscopy are all clear and hope the GP can get to the root cause of the pain and other issues you're experiencing.

Hello colin
Thanks for your kind reply.
I spoke to a gp today and I'm in for a full mot with blood tests. He did say it could be diabetes related.

I'm guessing they'll do bloods and possibly urine. They probably want to rule out anything kidney related and get a better idea of what's going on.

I too have very similar symptoms as you . I was only diagnosed last April so not been on metformin for too long . I’ve also experienced weight loss which isn’t too good for me as I’m a slim diabetic. Like you I’ve had colonoscopy and ct scan , all came back clear , thank God . Do let me know how you get on .

Hi folks , thanks for your replies.
I have been putting up with my symptoms for quite a while and was told it's probably due to scar tissue following my op. I've been feeling very low so have been rewarding myself with large amounts of chocolate. At one stage my blood sugars where 17.6, but I managed to get them down to 7.6 by stopping the choc.
I am terrible at being diabetic and go through phases of being good avoiding sugar then caving in to it again.
I now think my problems are down to me and I must try and stop the sugar rewards
I have posted this as I am not proud of my actions and need to get this sorted.

You 've been Diabectic 20 yrs, I think you are entitled to get a bit down with it, me I 've only been confirmed a yr & a half, still getting to grips with it, it's a struggle to change eating habits of a lifetime, I have cut right back on all the sugary things I used to eat, I regularly had porridge for breakfast, but now rarely eat that, but if I am going to be active all day ,I will have a bowl for breakfast.

What I say is don't beat yourself about for sugar cravings, true the only way to stop the craving is not to eat sweet stuff, I occasionally fall of the wagon ,but on it more than off.
This Metfartin stuff is a nuisance, but it does help me, I too suffer stomach problems caused by it, but hopefully when my next blood test is done I will know how I am doing, I was down to 56 from a high of 107 ,so made good progress, but who knows how it is now cos of this dreaded Lurgy I haven't had one for 9 months.
Chin up Spud, you've had the cancer, and got over it, Diabetes is a cake walk!

Thank you Grldtnr I feel boosted by your comments you are so right I have managed with the help of our fantastic nhs special people to survive bowel cancer.
I owe it to myself to start taking steps to beat my sugar cravings.

Good to hear your determination @M1k3

Hopefully the full check-up from your Dr can rule out any other possible causes, and a refreshed and revitalised menu overhaul can keep your BGs in line.

Are there other things you enjoy which are not food-related which you can use as a pick-me-up? Sometimes caving to those cravings is a double edged sword, particularly if you are aware it’s something you shouldn’t be doing, as you can get feelings of regret and self-criticism after the momentary pleasure.

It is important to be kind to yourself and not give yourself a hard time. Everyone has wobbles from time to time... but recognise how well you are doing too. You deserve to be healthy and happy 🙂

Hell again,
Thank you for your reply I am waiting for visit to gp to give blood for sample analysis.

I have decided to get my life on track again and seem to be doing ok so far.
I was told by my friends wife who is a diabetic nurse that my symptoms are classic metformin related so I hope to be able to get an alternative and a return to good health soon.
