Just like title says
Consultant says no
But doc says keep to units
Avoid lager
But spirits are ok
In moderation
Another minefield to tackle

I'm on Metformin and still have alcohol. Usually have a glass of red wine with my Sunday dinner. And the occasional pint of beer.

Yes, its ok.

But worth bearing in mind that some alcoholic drinks do contain carbohydrate, so will impact your blood sugars. But also that alcohol keeps your liver busy whilst it's being processed and thus you can get a "low" as well.

Yes, as has been said it is the carbs not the alcohol that is the problem. I drink a little red wine. Most beers have too many carbs, though some light/lite beers are OK . Dry white wine and spirits with low carb mixers are also OK in moderation i.e. Government guidelines.
