I'm in my first week of taking metformin and I know all the side effects are still settling in but I've been fine - until last night when I had two glasses of sweet wine (I know, new to this did it without even thinking - and I drink this as I had my gallbladder out and since then can't drink anything medium to dry)

Within two hours my tummy wash going mad and the explosions in my tummy moved to my butt.

Is this something that's common? I know I should stop drinking altogether - I only ever have a couple of glasses at the weekend.

Very common side effects of metformin.
You can ask to be put on a modified release version and that ought to significantly lessen the frequency of that particular side effect.

It's the first time I've had diarrhoea, but it was the fireworks going off inside me that was almost as bad. Much better today, - think I'll just put knock the wine on the head for now.

Sorry to hear about the gastric upheaval you experienced @JackyAM

Hopefully things will settle for you now. Some people find the side effects of Metfartin reduce over time, but is does seem wise to avoid any particular triggers to begin with!

It does, you're right. Funny what you call it, I have found myself a little more windy then normal 😳
