Metformin and kidney function

I don’t know if Metformin causes a reduction in kidney function, but below a certain level of function Metformin is not recommended,
Diabetes can cause a reduction in kidney function .
 
At the diabetic review when you have to take in a urine sample
that is a check on your kidney's and they can tell you the results
 
Hi. I've been on Metformin SR for 20 years and still have very good kidney function on all measures and I'm over 70 so I suspect it's OK unless you already have some kidney issues?
 
eGFR blood test and Albumen test in urine sample for me, along with HbA1c etc being on the calendar at 8am next Tuesday as part of my pre hospital D clinic requirement for the Friday. (I actually go every 6 months but they only do the urine one once annually)
 
Albumin creatinine ratio is another measure of kidney health, and your kidneys should normally be monitored annually if you live with diabetes. Of course, the restrictions around coronavirus, and the additional pressures on the healthcare system mean that things are currently slightly different.
