My first meter reading this morning, before eating was 1.5, with an alarm sounding beep on my Codefree. Had me worried until I tested again with a new strip and got a more expected 4.8. Bit of a surprise it was! Is a reading of 1.5 even possible? knocked my confidence in the reliability of the meter too...

I have a friend whose readings are not the same ever, with varying differences. Some small some large. Not only on one meter but on different meters. His doctor cannot explain it. He might be 12, then whilst his finger still has blood he will do another test and it might read 10 or 8 or 15.

A reading of 1.5 is possible and even the meter showing Lo can happen. It won't be the meter playing up more like a test strip being a bit dodgy or even if you had a bit of water mixed in with the blood sample after washing your hands. I have had a strip or two read 1.6 or in that area before now when a retest showed it was in the normal range of around 6.0. If in doubt always retest.

Just one of those things that can happen, another one is you can get an unexpected high result because of having something on your finger.

PHEW!! Must have been quite a shock @Greymouser!

Glad it just seems to be a dodgy-strip thing!

I've had the occasional dodgy strip over the past 9 years, very wise to re-test if you didn't feel it was correct 🙂 I once had a genuine 1.7 - I knew I was hypo, but was filling out a form and just wanted to finish it before treating the hypo. You do not think rationally! I did give in though when I found it impossible to write legibly 😱

It was a shock, in a way, because I was not feeling my best, being quite light headed. I will have to look up the symptoms of a hypo again, just to be sure! 🙂
