My freestyle lite went on the blink again, the other week while at work it played up and it had to be replaced and then on Monday I had the same issue, when i went to put the strip in the meter the blood drop symbol showed up but then id put the blood on the strip and nothing would happen, tryed 3 times and then decided to ring abbott, thinking it was a battery issue she talked me through making all the right checks, after 5 minutes we realised i needed a replacement so she put me through to a lovely lady and arrnaged for a new meter, i ordered it at 1 and it arrived the next day i was amazed i love abbott so much but im thinking of trying out a new brand as ive only ever used abbott..As a type 2 I guess one that checks for keytones is not really important.

What I want to know is if i change meters do I just go to the doctors let her know and she will start a new script for me?

Thanks

Hi Steff, yes your GP should just be able to change your repeat fr the new strips. Often the meter includes a card which has a precription change request on it. 🙂

Thanks Northerner im looking into getting an accu-chek. x

If you're getting an Accuchek I'd recommend the Aviva over the Nano - the Nano has some kind of design fault and says the batteries need replacing when they don't sometimes - happened twice to me so I don't trust them.

Thats the one im just looking at online now as it goes, looks very nice.what does the 6 lancets in a drum mean? ive never had a drum

The 6 lancets in a drum means that instead of changing an individual lancet, you put a 'drum' inside the finger pricker which contains 6 lancets, and there's a twisting mechanism at the end of the finger pricker which makes the lancet change. I hope that makes sense? I use the Multiclix and love it, they are bringing out a new one (but it isn't compatible with the old lancets) so might be worth asking them for one of those - it's just an upgrade on the current Multiclix.

I have the Accucheck nano, Its a good device and it seems to last with the battery. Id have a look around for the cheapest one. Mine was 12.20 I think (strange price i know) It was from the co - op chemist attached to my doctors. Hope this helps

One *should* come with the meter - if not you should be able to blag one out of them for free - give them a call, sweet talk them (everyone online says this is the best one, etc etc etc) 🙂 if not I guess you should be able to buy one. I have a pack of lancets (I was prescribed a massive box, but when I got a free meter off AccuChek once they had a 4 pack of lancets in it) I can send you if you can't get those.

Thanks everyone im poo at trying to blag something for free on the phone just feels so unatural

Has anyone had any experience with the one touch- ultra easy

I tried to blag a spare meter off Accuchek ages ago and they wouldn't give me one! Then they sent me a Nano out of the blue a couple of months later. DSNs are the best place to get meters free as they usually have all sorts. 🙂

Also, I've only ever used the Multiclix lancets, all the others I've encountered look too fiddly.

Maybe it's a female thing - I've got free stuff out of Accuchek before! 😉

Carol has 2 pink ones too. One in her school bag and one in her handbag. At home she uses the OneTouch Ultra 2 🙂

I like the easys. They don't take up much room. But the wallet is a bit small, because Carol uses a BD finger pricker, which takes up the whole length. So the pot of strips doesn't fit anymore. We had to squeeze the pot into the outside pocket.
