Went for a steroid injection this morning for trocanteric bursitis. As there was no immediate relief and I also mentioned numbness on the surface of the outer upper thigh as well as the deep ache inside Dr mentioned the above could be the problem as well.
On checking internet found that it mentioned that diabetics are more liable to suffer from this due to neuropathy than the normal population where an injury is more likely to cause the problem. It is caused by the compression of the lateral cutaneous nerve. Having had two knee replacements I have several areas of skin numbness around knees and extending into shins. Is this all related? At the moment I am panicing - although it does seem that injections and painkillers are the answer at the moment but apparently time is the greatest healer although surgey is also a possiblilty!!
Is there anyone out there who has had this problems . In my ignorance I thought neuropathy showed itself in the leg but from the feet up - hence the annual checks.
