Hi all, sorry not been around for a while not been in a good place and still struggling :( anyway that is not the problem.

Have been having real problems with excessive sweating. Went to gp this morning for anti-depressants, and mentioned the sweating to the doc. and she said it sounded like the menopause, had a hysterectomy some 20 yrs ago but my ovaries were left in place, I've had menopausal symptoms for quite some time now so I'm not sure that that is the cause of the sweating! Doc also said it may be meds so keep an eye on things!! I know that we are all different but am wondering if anyone else has been on 'the change' lol, and how long the sweats etc. lasted. BS levels arn't particularly good either could that be an effect of menopause too?

Hope this makes sense, thanks

There is another possible explanation, autonomic neuropathy.

http://diabetes.niddk.nih.gov/dm/pubs/neuropathies/#autonomicneuropathy

Sweat Glands.

"Autonomic neuropathy can affect the nerves that control sweating. When nerve damage prevents the sweat gland from working properly, the body cannot regulate it's temperature as it should. Nerve damage can also cause profuse sweating at night or whilst eating".

Not saying that this is the case but it might be a good idea to try and get those blood sugars lower?

Hope this helps.

Maise.

Thank you Maisie, will take a look and if necessary will go back to doc!

I don't know about the menopause but totm plays havoc with my levels, generally higher the week before then a drop the day after. I hear that teenagers struggle due to fluctuating hormones so I imagine that the menopause will be similar.

Hi Shirl - I have suffered the most awful sweating during night time for several years - nobody knows the cause and it is presumed menopausal - I've had my hormone levels tested several times but they are fluctuating between normal and menopausal so it seems likely this is what is going on. I do get it during the day occasionally but it's mainly night time. I always check my blood glucose in case it's a hypo but 90% of the time it isn't .

Hi flutterby, thanks for your reply. I get very hot and sweaty all the time, not just during the night! So uncomfortable and embarassing to say the least :( and I also find myself falling asleep anytime. Ah well I guess it could be worse 😱
