Relationship to Diabetes
Well; I paid my membership fee. All sorts of promises were made about information you would receive. So far, deathly silence although they have taken my £36.00 membership fee.
I am a bit disgusted as it's tantamount to dishonesty.
Hope someone from Membership reads this.!!

Hi @amble, are you referring to a Diabetes UK membership? I think the chief benefit of membership is free copies of 'Balance' magazine, published a few times a year 🙂 Perhaps @Josh DUK or @Gwen Diabetes UK could give more details of the benefits of a subscription? I've tagged them so they should see your post 🙂

Thanks Northener. Yes it is a Diabetes UK Membership. So far all I've had is a 'welcome' email as they had my £36.00
but nothing else at all. Disappointing.
 
I got a welcome pack a coup,e of weeks after joining, and now get the balance magazine.

While the forum has Diabetes UK branding, it's kink of not really Diabetes UK. Although there is some Diabetes UK staff online, doing some admin in the background. And it supports the forum.
In a way the forum (activity?) is use diabetics who have signed up to it.
In contrast, I used to belong to a tech forum run by a publisher. There business was publishing computer magazines (Computer Active etc). Posting on the forum was in affect no different to writing to in to the magazine. Staff would answer question; even posting what you'd get in the magazine. They'd also forum content & print it.
Here, it's us the D's.
 
That is, you're talking to other dialectics here, more than DUK. The tech forum you were talking to the publishing/magazine staff, with more of an office, business atmosphere.
Well, that's what it seems like to me.
 
Sorry to hear you’ve been disappointed by your membership experience so far. Hope you get the welcome pack that @Grannylorraine mentions if that is still available.

Its a long time since I joined, so I’m not sure what the promises were that you mentioned, but I’ve always found Balance to be a good read, with all sorts of articles about developments, research as well as people’s stories.

There is a lot of information and support available through the Diabetes UK website, of course, including the ‘learning zone’, blogs and ‘Enjoy food’, and without donations from membership and elsewhere, of course none of that would be possible.

Stopped membership once fixed price come into play, before subscription was based on affordability, shame it was done away with as sure many more people would join.

When you accept a payment of £36.00 it should not take 21 days to come up with a return for it. I am very VERY unimpressed and if I had realised I would not have paid up. I'd quite like a refund for what you have had but, as of 4th Feb. I have still not yet received anything.
