Hi,

Just wondered does anyone follow a medium carb diet and if so what are medium carbs?🙄

Hi,

I think I would fall into that category. I avoid large portions of concentrated carbs (rice, pasta, potatoes, flour) but eat most fruit and veg and the occasional chocolate eclair. My daily carb intake averages about 100g.

Hi,

It sounds pretty much what I am doing, I wondered if I was missing a trick😉

How much carbs a day can we have I'm newly diagnosed type 2 and it's confusing me

I think one should just be careful about the fat and carbohydrate combination. Usually higher fat is accompanied by lower carbs, or vice versa. So I am presuming medium carbs are accompanied with medium fats.

Me too. I am just trying and testing everything. I keep a note in my food diary and what works with my testing BGLs.😱

It's very individual. I can go 180g+ total carbs but 20%+ of that has to be fibre, generally.

Sounds about right. I think I will just carry on as I am. The food diary helps and my current BGLs from self testing are between 5 and 6. It is complicated enough without me adding to it! 🙂🙂

I'm trying to do the same Sharon just medium carbs and medium fats but it's hard to gauge it. And then self testing all the time.

I agree with you. As posted previously I think I will continue the way I am rather than complicate things too much (very easily done!).

That sounds excellent - carry on, it's obviously working! :D

Hi,
This is when the trouble starts and I try to be way too clever all for a few carbs extra... I think as I have previously said I will leave well alone...:D

I had a bit of a treat yesterday as what at a works buffet and had a sausage roll and cake but bloods were a consistent 6 so I think it's about what works for you.

I can't see why.
I'm low fat.
I don't need to bump up to high carbs, it's not really a tit for tat for me.
I still factor protein in my diet.
I just eat enough healthy food, if I put on weight, I eat less.

As above, it what works for you, not a general catch all formula.

It surely depends on whether one is trying to lose weight. If you reduce fat and carbs and don’t replace them with anything then clearly calories are going to be a lot lower. Eating more protein doesn’t work for everyone because it can also raise blood sugar: it certainly does for me. You’re absolutely right, it’s a case of experimenting and testing to see what works.

Oh my I'm confused I'm trying to balance both carbs and fat but reading all the blurb on various diabetic eating websites its low carb high fat but I'm finding low carb is making me low on the blood glucose levels in an afternoon .

That is what eating low carb does - are you taking some medication at a dose which will drop your BG levels lower than advisable if you don't eat carbs to counter it?
Some HCPs assume that a patient is swallowing the recommended amount of carbs and set a dosage to suit.

Sorry I can’t remember if your on meds for diabetes or what they are.

What levels are you going down too

Hi I'm on Metformin 3 a day and levels between 5 and 7. I'm finding I'm getting such a lull in the afternoon. Even after eating my levels are the same.

Those are good results.
