I tested My blood glucose yesterday morning before breakfast and before taking the Metformin and Gliclazide and my Blood Pressure medication the reading was 6.5.However this morning I took my medication and half hour later tested My blood the reading was 8.0? how is it when I took medication it is suppposed to lower the reading not highten it compared to a reading before medication.🙂

Ade, it sounds like you are seeing the effects of 'dawn phenomenon'. This is where, as you wake up to face the day, your liver releases and extra boost of glucose to give you some extra energy - fine if you're not diabetic, but problematical if you are. Thus, if you test immediately on waking your level may well be lower than if you test half an hour or more afterwards.

Have you eaten anything different or done anything different? It does vary. SOme people also find the readings go up when they are getting a cold. Might just be a glitch.

When do you take the gliclizaide? It stimulates the pancreas so the insulin is ready for when you eat. I was advised to take it 20-30 minutes before eating and take the metformin afterwards.

I only had something to eat before I went to bed Ias I was hungry as im dieting,Ihad some porridege this morning and went for a walk as I do nowevery day and just tested it and its still 8 maybe I will wait till lunch time and do a after meal test.My Gp told me to take the metformin gliclazide and both blood pressure tablets all together😱

It was the GP who told me to take all tablets in one go and the DSN when I did DESMOND to take it 20-30 minutes before meals. It is also helpful to read Pationt Information Leaflets that come with packs of pills.

I'm not quite clear what you've done? This morning, have you eaten between taking medication and taking blood glucose level? It's considered more useful to check 2 hours after eating. However, it's difficult to interpret readings unless you test both before eating AND 2 hours after.

It's probably not the medication that raised your blood glucose levels, but food (if you ate) or dawn phenomenon. If you didn't take medication (Metformin & Glicazide), then the increase would probably be greater.

Copepod I got up this morning took my medication then tested my blood a reading of 8.0 nothing to eat I then had breakfast and tested My blood 2 hours after eating it was still a reading of 8.0.I have just tested before lunch the reading has gone down to 5.3 so maybe I did a test to quickly after breakfast

Metformin isn't an immediate acting medication it takes weeks to reach get into its stride and after that you are topping up a background level.
Your mornng readings are dependent on the DP and what you ate the night before.
