mayday - double injected

took my insulin as normal today then had breakfast

rushed into work (tubes are up the swanny) and as soon as i got into work i injected again

then panicked as i realised i had done it twice, immediately tested my sugars, they are 3.3

i injected 16 units, so am panicking about how much sugar i gotta take before i go seriously HYPO!!

help?

oh dear, i dont know, is there a number you can call? drs will be open now

Eat a small packet of jelly babies and then check after 10 minutes and take it from there!🙂 If they are not moving then eat another packet and test again after 10 minutes - keep doing this until sugars are up to about 6 or 7. Then have something like a couple of digestive biscuits or a packet of crisps! Bev

im eating an apple at the mo, and i have curly wurlys in my desk, so ill have two apples first, and see how it goes

ooo curly wurlys mmmm , i'd give the apple a miss and eat one of those lol , its a good excuse to be naughty.
 
Is it novorapid you've taken twice? If so I'd say get some quick acting glucose into you straight away, juice, cola etc. In theory (if it was a bolus injection) you should need to take in carbs equivalent to the extra insulin you've taken, so whatever you would have had to eat to inject that much.
Let us know how it's going.
 
What did you inject twice? basal or bolus insulin? that will help you know how long you are at risk of hypo's for.

Have you had some fast acting carbs first? I would keep eating until you get your blood sugar up and then monitor frequently
 
id defo loose the apple and get the chocolate in to your system. maybe even send someone to shops for jelly babies as they work like magic.

Oh dear that's not good! I'm with everyone else on this one really. If it's quick acting insulin you've taken twice you need to get some quick acting carbs into your body quick and keep eating them until your blood sugar looks better. I always find lucozade works better for me and it's good if you don't fancy eating constantly! You'll need to be careful for the next few hours though with all that insulin in your system, I suspect your BS will drop again even if you get it up to a normal level. Is there someone at work that knows you're diabetic and what's happened just in case?

i hate it when i have hypo's cus i work with all guys so i dont want to seem all girly!!

blooming tube strikes, messed up my routine!!! have had two apples AND a curly wurly

sugars are 3 now....

drink some lucozade or normal coke / juice . and eat some carbs . its better to go a little high and then correct in an hour or so .
 
Ok as it's fast acting I would work out how many carbs you need like aymes said. So you did 16 extra units? if your I:C ratio was 1:10g then you would need 160g to cover that amount of insulin, which is like 2 bottles of lucozade.

argh im such an idiot, im trying to lose weight as well so jelly babies etc are bad bad bad!!!

had two apples and the curly wurl and sugars are 5.4 so gonna leave it another twenty minutes, hopefully that might be sufficient enough

got a meeting at 11am for and hour and half so hopefully i'll be sorted by then!!

Make sure you have something to take into the meeting with you. You can't worry about the weight, I'm afraid, and it's only transitory - you'll probably burn the calories worrying!😉

What time did you take the insulin (the second lot)? Remeber, even if you're 5.x acouple of hours after, the insulin will continue to reduce your levels for up to 4 hours, so be prepared! Hope things go ok.🙂
 
Hehe! We've all done it, or will do at some point!

Make sure you leave some time before the meeting to test and get some more carbs in you if you are low again or getting lower 🙂

well lucozade is approx 17g per 100ml, so 90g in a 500ml bottle, so it wouldn't be quite 2 bottles if you needed 160g. I wasn't saying thats how much you actually needed, I have no idea what your I:C ratio is and wasn't clear how much you had over injected by. I was just showing how you could work out how much carbohydrate you needed.

If you took it at just before 9, it's going to be 1pm before it's run out, so be careful until that time
