I must admit, I find this kind of statement very offensive:

In 2008 diabetes was costing us 1 million sterling pounds per week. Our struggling NHS cannot afford to deal with the whopping treatment bills the chronic condition is saddling us with.

I do agree that we need to look after ourselves better, as a nation, but this makes diabetes appear completely blameworthy even though they state later on that only 80% of people with Type2 are overweight and there is no mention of genetic predisposition. Half a million people with Type2 are not overweight and millions are overweight and don't have diabetes - the message is far too oversimplified and accusatory - no wonder there is so much guilt and depression about the condition :(
 
Probably the only good thing about the article was the link to DUK. Just the link on for people to see and comment if they wished.
