A LADY believed to have lived with diabetes the longest out of anyone in Wales, has finally succumbed to the condition.
Marion Jones, a lifelong Kidwelly resident, passed away on Good Friday at Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen, aged 74.
The mother-of-two and grandmother-of-one was diagnosed with diabetes in 1950 as a nine-year-old.
One of her sons, Elgan Jones, said: "Our mother practically battled diabetes her entire life. She was one of the longest in the UK and most probably the longest in Wales.
"She was first given insulin in 1950 when it first came over from America. She was only nine years old — she was one of the first guinea pigs."

Strange reporting - "We never developed diabetes, she never gave us sugar." - err, no, that's not why your develop diabetes. Also, insulin had been available for nearly 30 years when she was diagnosed, so she wasn't really a 'guinea pig'. And why wouldn't she get her award for 60 years in 2010? If she was still alive, she was surely entitled?
Still, a remarkable achievement - it must have been very difficult for her growing up with what was available back then.
