Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Sarif Hassan, winner of the London Womens Marathon. Was she wearing a glucose sensor? Is she diabetic or was it some other piece of tech?

She apparently doesn’t have diabetes so it must just be a piece of monitoring tech.

So they can already measure their pulse and breathing rate with a simple fitbit, now they want to calculate their glucose loading. I suppose it's quite useful.

She was amazing.
Not only was it her first marathon and she was struggling with a problem with her leg/hip halfway round, she had also been following Ramadan the week before to the extent she struggled to drink at her first water stop.

With warmer weather approaching & bare arms on show we will be seeing g more & more libres on show, few people have noticed own as t shirt wearer.

There were Abbott advertising boards all the way round, I’m sure they were aiming the Libre at athletes.
Indeed. Abbott are targeting a variation of the Libre specifically at athletes: the "Abbott Libre Sense Glucose Sport Biosensor". (Nearly twice as expensive; well there's a surprise.)

But-- it seems there is as yet nowhere near sufficient research demonstrating whether or not CGMs, of any kind, are actually useful for athletes; see e.g. https://journals.humankinetics.com/view/journals/ijsnem/33/2/article-p121.xml .

There's a video here where a T1 diabetic tries using the LibreSense and compares to an L2.

Basically, he thinks the L2 is better for alarms and wider range (no need for either of those for non diabetics), but the LibreSense removes need to scan and has a better app to view results. He also found the LibreSense less reliable than the L2, but think he might have just been lucky with the L2 usage he's had.

It's been used by pro cyclists during training for a while, initially to prevent bonking (exercise induced hypo) and now to optimise carbohydrate intake. However, they are not allowed to use it in competition, and there's been a couple disqualifications because riders still had the sensor on, even if they weren't using the data.

I assume there are exceptions for people with Type 1 diabetes such as the NovoNordisk team?

I'm not sure. UCI rules are quite strict, and not necessarily well thought out. For instance, it isn't allowed to wear a libre during competition, but you can use an inhaler, if you have an asthma diagnosis, so everyone and their dog in the pro peloton are officially asthmatic.

They can afaiu apply for an exemption, it's fairly hard to cheat when proving you're T1 diabetic vs borderline asthmatic
