My daughter has a positive experience to share about the NHS today. She woke up with an agonising throat and was struggling to swallow, she teaches and some of her class are very unwell, and the teacher she works alongside (her mentor) is pregnant so she needed to get checked out. My daughter has a compromised immune system and when she is unwell often needs antibiotics.

She called the GP but there was a recording saying the queue to call in for appointments was full. She didnt give up though and managed to get an appointment online with a face-to-face doctor for 11. She went along he saw her early and he checked her over, took a swab and said it looks like Strep, so she was given antibiotics and told to isolate for 48 hours, and if not better or gets worse to go to hospital, she has just called down to me in tears saying she cant move and everything aches and she is freezing, the heating is on, I have turned on her electric throw and given her some juice and paracetamol, she feels hot to touch but her temperature is OK. There are a lot of children in her class with strep so this isnt a suprise, just never seen her so unwell. She hasnt had the flu jab yet and I did wonder when she said her legs and head are aching if it could be that. The thing I was saying is that despite these hard times she still managed to get seen, her doctor said she was the 5th person that morning with strep too

"Staff at Network Rail - about half the workers involved in a pay dispute - are expected to walk out from 6pm on Christmas Eve until 27 December"

That's definitely going to disrupt a lot of people who had hoped to see relatives or get away over the Christmas period.
We are away for a family get together, in a rented house, but fortunately planned to take the car

Those extra train strike days over Christmas is appalling, they are deliberately targeting general public, cost in economic terms at busiest time of year will be colossal.

That's the point of any strike in the public sector.
Hold the country to ransom against the government.

Wouldn't know about that, shame if so as they do great service & we'd be lost without them.

Well, it looks like they should be seriously considering moving, as now the government is requesting help from the army, they won't be renegotiating.

And flights will be seriously disrupted by Border Control over all of Christmas and The New Year.
