If looks like many employers will have to dig very deep this winter, or we'll be seeing a lot of disruption.

"UPCOMING STRIKES:

  • CWU workers are also planning seven more strikes next month on: 1, 9, 11, 14, 15, 23, 24 December
  • Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union at Network Rail and 14 train operators are planning four 48-hour strikes on 13-14 December and 16-17 December and 3-4 January and 6-7 January
  • Royal College of Nursing has confirmed strikes on 15 December and 20 December
  • Ambulance workers, who are part of Unison, are set to strike before Christmas although an exact strike date has not been set yet
  • Bus strikes include: Abellio strikes on 1-2 December 9-10 December and 16-17 December and Metroline strikes set for 1-3 December, 8-9 December and 15-16 December
  • Around 100,000 civil service members to strike in December and January - dates have not been announced
  • National Education Union (NEU) teacher members who work in 77 sixth-form colleges in England are also on strike in a dispute over pay.
  • The University and College Union (UCU) is following a 48-hour strike last week with a 24-hour walkout among university staff and is holding a rally in London. UCU members at 150 universities will be on strike.

The Fire Brigades Union said it is holding the ballot for a strike after demands for a pay increase that reflects the rate of inflation was rejected."

What a difference a few days make.

That list looks very short now!

I work for an ambulance trust and belong to Unison, our vote didnt go through as only 44% of members voted but the ones that did vote were 90%, GMB and the other union for the Trust did get the vote for strike action. Please be reassured we won't want patients to be adversely affected.

I don't think it will matter.
Buses, trains, road maintenance, gritters, emergency call handlers, BT service engineers, you won't be getting in work on the days you aren't striking, patients won't be arriving either.
And parents won't be working if they have to stay at home during the teachers strikes.
At the moment the 19th is the only date without a strike somewhere penciled in.

(Wait until generating company workers walk out, that'll be a cold day)

Hi , what did Ronald Reagan do with the Air Traffic Controllers when they went on strike ?

In the news, Curry's are the first retailer to state they have dropped The Royal Mail for the time being.

Hi , I fully understand that price increases are bad news for everyone.
However , what I would say if you don't like the package that your employer provides find another employment.

Easier said than done.
Hi , Quite agree but I am sick of being held to ransom by people in work are who are well paid in comparison to pensioners who reply on the state pension. This is all about differantals and we are now back in the 1970s re Union power.

The government is telling the pensioners that pensions will increase by 11% , mine won't along with many thousands of us old folk.

The whole country is in a mess and we will all sink together if we are not careful.

Which is odd, because all the NHS unions are saying their members are leaving to drive Amazon delivery trucks.
Hi , well from my understanding Amazon are culling the work force from the top down and have put an embargo on recruitment.

What is going to happen to us old folk ?

Its always been the way though.
The balance of power swings from unions to government, as soon as one looks weak, the other pounces.
Public sentiment is fickle.
The unions will make the same play they did to overthrow Heath and Wilson, and then we will get another Thatcher in to destroy the unions.
Unfortunately by that the industries will be wound down, privatised, or just cease to exist like the car industry and the coal mines.

I didn't say it was true, I said the union leaders have that rhetoric.

I dont remember this, my sister was an air traffic controller at Gatwick for many years, maybe the strikes were before her time there, she is 59 and retired 9 years ago in 2013. she worked there from 1993, when were these strikes and what did Ronald do?

Hi , Ronald Reagan sacked the ATC on mass.

"On August 5 1981, following the PATCO workers' refusal to return to work, the Reagan administration fired the 11,345 striking air traffic controllers who had ignored the order, and banned them from federal service for life"

"Some staff are seeking out higher pay in other parts of the economy, added Unison general secretary Christina McAnea, causing a shortage of workers in the NHS.

“The retail sector and Amazon are paying more in some areas,” she said, speaking ahead of the Trades Union Congress’s annual gathering on Tuesday.

“And no disrespect to people who work in retail or in Amazon warehouses, but I think that’s a less stressful job.”"

"Kathryn Singh, chief executive of Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH), told a meeting on October 7 that the service is “competing against the likes of Amazon and others.”
Ms Singh told the meeting of Rotherham Council’s health select commission: “People can go and work for Amazon for more money than they can in the NHS and care sector."

And another worrying strike set as the weather is getting particularly colder.

"More than 600 workers at the housing and homelessness charity Shelter are beginning an “unprecedented” fortnight of strike action on Monday in a dispute over pay – coinciding with one of its busiest times of the year."
