Relationship to Diabetes

:( afternoon all, was wondering if anyone else is suffering from this dreaded cold that is going around (sore throat, pathetic cough, now sniffles and sneezing) what affect does this have on your BG levels I am finding mine are ok but was expecting them to either increase/decrease rapidly??

Hi Lee, people do react differently to illnesses (like everything where diabetes is concerned!), although it's probably more common to see an increase in overall levels. It might be because you still have some beta cell function remaining that you are better able to cope with it as your pancreas may be giving you a helping hand along with the injected insulin. I usually rise a little, but not hugely like some people do. Just keep an eye on things and get in touch with your nurse if you find levels rising high as you may need to adjust your insulin (hard to do corrections with mixed insulins, I think).

Hope you are feeling much better soon! 🙂
